I've been following this thread and have decided to purchase the LEDs Jae used for my own tank and would like to see if anyone else would like to join in on a group purchase.

The LEDs are from a company in China and I will list the price and details below. My plan is to submit an order in about 10 days.

3w 220lm 18000-2000K cool white . Price is USD 1.27/pc
3w 450-455nm/440-450nm Royal blue . Price is USD 2.29/pc
220w waterproof power supply for 88pcs leds connection . Price is USD 39.9/pc
85w waterproof power supply for 30leds connection . Price is USD 23.8/pc
60degree lens at price of USD 0.137

Recommended white to blue ratio 3 to 1.

So far I have my self and another friend going in on these. I have a tentative quote to them get an idea of the shipping charges.

The link above has a couple references to other builds using these LEDs as well.

Great idea... Tampa bay reef club has a great DIY in there on how a guy did it... If it didnt look like sooooo much work, id be in.

This is probably one of the easiest of LED builds. The power supplies come optimized for the number of LEDs of the system. All you have to do is mount and wire them.

I have XP-Gs right now. 345 lumens to 228 seems like a significant jump. I'll have to do some more research.

Any ideas on if you have to have more LEDs because of the lower output?

You would need more LEDs compared to the XP-Gs... but not more than if you were to use the XR-E's. The G's output 340 lumens if I remember correctly.

Do you have a link to the seller? I believe I need 24 white and 24 blue and want to get the correct power supply can you help?

Ooh.. I have a couple notes to add...

First, since they do these on a special order basis I need to end order taking by Saturday so that I place the order on Monday.

Second, make sure you order extras incase you have any oops or decide to add on to your arrays.

And lastly I forgot that they make a 3w power supply for only $4. Great for testing LEDs and for moonlights.

Any chance you can ask your contact about the 340/345 lumen white LEDs? I may still be interested in the blues, they are 60% cheaper than where I originally got them from.

I'd be interested in some to make 2-3 72" strips to take the place of my T5 actinics. I was figuring 3 strips of 20 would give decent actinic coverage, but may go more to get less "spotlighting". Is the royal blue the only blue option or do they have 420nM ones? If I go less than the 88 will it affect the driver, or do I just have to do runs of 11, i.e. 55, 66,77, or 88?

Oh ok I thought that there might be a difference as its more of a custom kind of thing plus I am a complete idiot. haha on a side note this week I am going to be ordering stuff to build dwzms arduino controler if anyone needs anything

I may be missing something, but on their site they don't list a 3w blue led.

What's the plan for ordering/shipping/etc?

Sorry I do not see the 340 lumen ones you are referring to. Besides, for simplicity sake I'm going to just stick with the items listed in my post. Again, sorry. I am doing this to help everyone and am not making or gaining anything from it.

Captain. When I place the order I will tell them how many LEDs will be driven and they will optimize the PS accordingly. My contact told me that I can remove LEDs if need be in pairs without causing problems. Here's the response I received from the manufacturer...
"Yes, you can take off a parallels, when you think they are too bright .( 200W)
You can take off some in each series , when you think the 80W drivers circit are too bright ."

David... I going to stop taking orders on Thursday or Friday, and get quote on shipping and will be placing the order on Monday morning (give everyone time to get me their payment. I will split the shipping by the number of people ordering. I'm going to pay the manufacturer via Paypal and they require a 4% surcharge to cover paypal fees. I will accept Paypal as payment from everyone with an additional 4% so that I am not shorted by their fees (that will be a total of 8% added to the total.)

For anyone who wants in please email me with the number of LEDs you are ordering and long with how they are going to wired so I pass that information to the manufacturer so they can tune the power supplies.

Hopefully I made everything clear... as always please ask any questions. I will answer to the best of my ability.
