Group Buy - Ozone Setup

Last week to get in on the ozone group buy. We have exceeded 10 units so we are going forward.

Marc

Minh, let me know in the next few days if you are in or not.

Marc,

Unfortunately, I found out about this group-buy AFTER I purchased an EOZ-300Y (without airpump) and SMS510 ORP controller. But, I can tell you that both units work well and the ORP in my tank is improving just after 2 days:

before: 260-220 ORP (night to day)
after: 320-280 ORP (night to day)

with ozone shutoff at 325.

Air flow through unit is about 0.8L/min

Enjoy...

PS Dosing ozone via venturi into ASM G4 skimmer.

Marc,

No carbon and currently no air dryer on the air pump intake.

I've read a bunch of threads on WebWebMedia (Fenner/Calfo, et al) and basically you really don't need to add carbon if you are dosing only a little ozone and running into a skimmer or reactor. Why, basically ozone is highly unstable and doesn't last more than a few minutes in such an environment. I figure I'm dosing about 50-100 mg/h (just a guess) into about 240 gallons of water. I could prolly get more ozone if I used an air dryer.

Thus far fish and corals are fine. No 'ozone' smell at all. Will update again let's say a week and month from now how the tank is doing. Very interested to see other peoples experiences with using ozone on their tanks...

Scott

Scott-

Does the water appear clearer yet?

Do you want me to order you an air dryer as part of this group deal?

I'm going to run carbon because I have two small children who would be far more susceptible than me to any ozone issues. Also, I have thousands of $$$$ worth of coral and fish, and a small bit of carbon seems like a small price to pay if some ozone should sneak by.

Marc

Marc,

Will check water clarity when lights come up (on alternate lighting cycle now for summer).

Will pass on the air dryer, but thank for offer.

Yeah, been going back and forth on the carbon. IF you have good quality carbon (that doesn't leach phosphates) then it cannot hurt to put carbon in.

I think an orp controller is far more important since you can earily overdose your tank and stress or possibly even kill all your livestock with ozone. That's why I'm starting with an orp cutoff of 325. Fenner et al were recommending something like below 350 or so, but watch your livestock for signs of stress just to make sure you are not dosing too much.

Sep 6 UPDATE

Sep 6 UPDATE

I received confirmation Sunday from Enaly that the ozone generators had shipped from China. They said to expect 5-7 business days travel time.

All other items are shipping from a Southern Cal wholesalers and they should ship this week. Hopefully everything should arrive to me at about the same time. I'll let everyone know when I have received everything, and we can then workout getting it to you.

Marc

Just an afterthought, I'll be travelling on vacation Sep 22-Oct 9. But I should be at the meeting on the 16th.

9/7 UPDATE

9/7 UPDATE

I received confirmation this evening that the ORP controllers & air dryers have shipped out of Southern CAL. Looks like everything will probably be in early-mid next week...about the same time I'm expecting the generators from China.

9/12 UPDATE

I received some of the stuff in today. I'm still waiting on the air dryers, ORP controllers and ozone generators. But most of the "extra" things that people ordered arrived.

9/13 UPDATE

9/13 UPDATE

I just got off the phone with the vendor in Southern Cal. I did not know, and they did not tell me, that the Air Dryers would be shipping directly from the manufacturer (Red Sea), as are the ORP controllers from Milwaukee. They are both cross country and are shipping ground. So rather than the 2 day UPS ground I had expected from Southern Cal...it's now more like 7-10 days ground. They told me that the controllers are in route, but the air dryers still had not shipped.

Still waiting on the slow boat from China for the generators.

I'll be on vacation Sept 21-Oct 9, and I'm hoping that everything will be in before I leave.

9/14 UPDATE

I just received all of the Air Dryers. Now just waiting on the generators, ORP controllers and some "extras".

9/16 Update

9/16 Update

All of the ORP controllers just arrived. The only thing we are waiting for are the ozone generators.

9/20 UPDATE

9/20 UPDATE

The remaining "extras" should be arriving today (Tuesday). I was able to have the shipper track the ozone generators and they will be delivered on Thursday or Friday. No explanation for the delay.

Problem is I'm headed to Montana early Thursday and won't be back until October 9. My house sitter knows that I have some stuff expected and will check every day. Sorry, but it looks like it won't happen until I get back. Everything else is sitting in my living room.

Not sure how many Mars people actually got this ozone setup besides me, but here's my feedback after about 2 weeks of use..

first off, the setup was a breeze.. it came with everything except for a tee to connect the O3 outlet to the venturi inlet.. i was lazy to swing by Lowes, so i took a 2" piece of RO tubing and cut a 1/4" hole in the middle.. then i connected the O3 outlet and venturi inlet to it, DIY tee :D

my tank's initial reading before the O3 generator was between 224 - 285.. i started by runing the generator on the controller (set at 350) at 1.5 hour intervals; basically the generator got power every other 1.5 hours regardless if the reading was below 350 or not..

within a couple of days, i noticed CLEARER water.. to test it even further, i skipped the normal weekly water change! and the algae that builds up on the glass slowed down dramatically.. i haven't cleaned the glass for 3 weeks.. in the past, i would have to clean the glass pretty much every week.. i've ALSO increased my feedings and phyto feast dosing.

not sure if this is good or bad, but the controller probe needs to be cleaned a least once per week (with vinegar).. otherwise the readings are false in the upwards direction.. this cuts the generator off so there's no chance of OD'ing the tank.

the skimmate (from a ER8-2) is totally different now.. it's a lot more slimy now.. before it was thick and dry like wasabi, now it's more like toothpaste.

HTH anyone who's still deliberating ozone.. i for one am hooked on O3 :D

edit: Thank you Marc!

Good news Huy. I can't wait to get mine running.

Minh- I have one complete setup that is not spoken for. I purchase two extra for those "just in case" people. Let me know if you want it.

Marc

Marc,

I might be out to the Elk Grove area sometime this week. Do you mind if I pick it up then? I also want to drop off the 55G tank.
