I don't think you're going to get many takers on the "yes" option. Plan your tank around the max size of the fish, not the size at purchase.

Sorry, I meant the fish thinking in the sense that if it is small, it does not confine itself to a smaller area. Whatever the age is, it will always require the same amount of space.

just having fun, nothing personal!!! i will, however, disagree; many species of fish will instinctual confine themselves to small spaces when juvenile.

The thing is also that I would have a hard time to give a fish away I had for a good wile - especially if it was to a store. You never know where it ends up and how it's treated where it ends up. I've actually seen how badly returned fish get treated at some stores. One LFS here got a golden dwarf angel and a blue lined angel that a customer had for years - they put them into one of their infested tanks and both fish were dead within a week.
If I would ever give a fish away it would have to be to someone who knows what he is doing and who cares like me about the fish.

Part of this hobby is responsibility. Would you think it was OK to keep a Great Dane in a NY apartment? You must understand the needs of the fish you decide to keep.
If everyone had the same idea as you do, where would all the adult Hippo tangs and Groupers go? A public aquarium can't have a display full of just one species.
Part of the reason I got a larger tank was to have fish that I couldn't have in a smaller tank.
Please do the right thing and only buy fish whose adult size requirements match your tank.

So I saw some fish that I really liked for my future reef tank. The only problem is my tank is about 60 gallons too small for what I want. I was wondering what peoples opinions were about getting the juvenile size and then when it got too big for the tank to sell it or give it away? There are plenty of aquariums in my area that would probably take it in. And I could get a tax deduction for donating price fish. :);)

Its much more difficult to give away fish than you make it out to be, selling for a profit is probably not going to happen. Unless you buy rare fish it will be difficult to get rid of them down the line. Also with most fish the smaller it is the more its worth, not the other way around

Exactly.
