Guess the color of this S. gigantea

Could be anything really. I had a blue once that continued to bleach to the point where there wasn't any noticeable blue left on it.

how did this blue gig do long term? my blue has continued to bleach as well. it just has a hint of color left. it looks healthy other then that though. it won't eat to transplant zoo either

i'm voting for blue also

I'd say purple of blue.

That would be a nice bonus. Most exporters, importers and retailers are usually aware of value of purple and especially blue gigs (or carpet nems in general). As such, I would be surprised if this turned out to be something other than tan or green. But you never know. Things might have gotten messed up in the chain of custody and it could turn out to be purple or blue, an added bonus.

I completely agree. Also, given that I spent $30 my expectation is not something very colorful. Any hint of green or multicolor will be a nice bonus. The particular LFS I purchased it from has been known to make mistakes (which is one of the reasons I visit every so often) such as the $40 mertensii which they thought was a BTA.

True green Gigantea are more rare than Blue and Purple.

Never recovered. Got smaller and smaller despite treatment with cipro. In the beginning it ate but stopped after the bleaching. It was very strange, because I had other sensitive species in the tank and they were thriving at the time. It never began the inflate/deflate cycle, just slowly shrank until it finally succumbed.

So how is this gig coloring up? Did you get the mertensii too?

My friend picked up the mertensii, this was probably almost a year ago, and eventually gave it to me to try to bring it back to health. By the time I got it, it was completely bleached. Its mouth was also damaged so it couldn't eat. Unfortunately, it slowly withered away. It was a nice size, only about 4":

The bleached gig is now in my anemone DT, under a Kessil A350w. It's hard to tell if it's coloring up. Sometimes the edges look a bit purple, while some center portions look light green. Its mouth is sometimes open with a siphonoglyph exposed:

For the most though the mouth is tightly closed. Since there isn't a healthy population of zoox to provide nutrients to the nem, I tried to feed it and it's got a pretty good appetite. I definitely don't think we're out of the woods just yet, but I'm still feeling good about this nem pulling through.

Sorry I dont mean to hijack your thread but you know a lot about carpets. I have a quick question. Can you identify which carpet I purchased, i have read quite a bit about differentiating between Haddons or Gig. I read earlier in your thread that blue foot meant it was a gig? I purchased one that is kind of bleached but still has some color. Mouth is closed & very sticky.

Thanks in advance this is a pic of the foot

No problem. Your nem is 100% gigantea. The telltale signs are the purple verrucae that appear as dots on the column, combined with the blue foot and general appearance of the tentacles.

True.. but still a new picture... We can make better informed bets that way. HAHAHAHA

I read in another post that you got 3 gigs that you are taken care off right now. If you can, post pictures please.
