guys with 500g + systems......what skimmer are you using

If you were going to spend the extra $ on a BK I would agree with ^. In the ATB forums there are posts from Hahnmeister were and ATB ext XL is going againsts a Spazz Volcano on the same system.

To me

#1 choice is H&S A-400
#2 choice is Deltec 1003 - 1004
#3 choice is Geo Dart NW protein skimmer or MRC new NW protein skimmer.

Some info on the A-400 :D

I use a Bubbleking 400 int. on a 600g SPS system
I really like the new 300 supermnarin, I have seen them in person and it looks like it would do great on a large tank. I have a 250 supermnarin (quite a bit smaller than the 300 SM) on a 240 and it really works great for such a small skimmer.

i was just about to link that but Poor Tom posted it First, :(

Johnathan the bubble density is low even wiith forced air and not all of his skimmers come with the alita, its all in the thread.

those bodies are huge and really need about 3x the air and a bigger neck, plus Spazz is developing a reputation of only responding to those looking to buy and ignoring the customers that purchased already.

That's too bad Nick. I know I have talked to him a couple of times but being that he was a one-man show, it was hard to get in touch with him.

I know he did right by a couple of skimmers sold a few months ago, and I would attribute this recent issue to growing pains. It's pretty common, though very unfortunate for the customers. I have liked his designs and hope he can get back on track as well as make good with those having problems.

It would be terrible to lose the talent and USA built product due to growth issues. I feel bad for Tom as he has had problems with other equipment too. :(

Tom,

You can always come for a visit and we can build you a square skimmer! :D

I saw the H&S in action at MACNA, and was not that impressed. it just didn't seem to be producing many bubbles. It seemed like the body was way too big for the pumps powering it...the body looked mighty impressive though.

Also, I think the MRC needlewheels will be a very serious contender...like a Reeflo 250 on steroids. Here are some pics of the prototypes they had at MACNA, I want to say this bad boy stood about 4 ft. tall:

too much water, not enough air. my skimmer draws 105W and produces 100 ltr/min. H & S should really be putting out better stuff than this by now. They make robust stuff and I know there is a better version coming, but it seems a bit short-sighted to show this unit off.

I ask Mr. Udo the same question and he explain why the H&S A-400 don't have the full body of bubble. As most of you already know H&S mount their pump very high compare to other protein skimmer in the market. Because they believe that is where the pump performing best with maximum amount of air and the right amount to turbulence to export the protein out of the water.

The one you saw in the picture at MACNA is 44" tall version, 16" OD body with 3xf5000 aquabee pumps. Each pump pushing 1100lph @ 42w but finsreef test it at 36-40w.

I run 2 skimmers... a Reeflo 250 and a custom job by GEO who makes Calcium reactors mainly. The GEO was fine when my Water volume was around 500 but when I went up to 1000g it needed some help.

To be fair to GEO, my skimmer was never supposed to skim 1000g either.

Jon, what new version are you talking about? I know they will work on the 60" tall, 16" OD with 5 aquabee F5000 with the MATCH size collection cup but they only build one tho... :D

H&S skimmers are not designed to fill the entire chamber with air. Each pump pulls 1200 to 1400 lph of air and is an exceptional skimmer. This is one of the newest models and will easily handle 2000 gallons of water with a heavy bioload.
