GXPKY's 240 Gallons of Addiction!

Took 6 vehicle loads to haul all the equipment and the tank, sump, and canopy. Stand was built by me, took 6 of us to move the tank into the house yesterday. Today the plan is to get the floor blocked up, and the plumbing work all done, then I'm gonna knock out the tank cleaning (would have done it before it was on the frame of the stand but we had 6 people here and good luck rounding them up when you need em).

240 gallon, 8x2x2, Glasscages built tank, euro braced, side overflows, 1.5 inch overflow pipes, closed loop system.
G4 Skimmer.

Anywho, I'll give a description of the rest of the equipment and all that later on busy day ahead of me today.

Anywho, our living room, kitchen, and hall are a disaster area, but hopefully we can get it back to normal soonish. Lol~

Can't wait to see this come together. I'm also looking at 8x2x2 tanks. Hopefully I'll be upgrading soon.

Very nice... can't wait to see it together.

... why's the stand so long? Built for a larger tank, or for a place to put your cold beverage as you admire the inhabitants?! :artist:

I like your choice in skimmer. I too use a G4 (on my 240) and love it.

Nice, did you get it from a fellow reefer?

Yes, got it from a friend/fellow reefer, a member of our local reef club (Kentucky Reef Society)

Very nice... can't wait to see it together.

Thanks for the compliments, will keep an updated journal here for people to tag along.

The stand is so long because I am going to put a canopy over it and allows me to hide the overflow on the right side and place shelves and doors on the left and right sides of the tank.

The skimmer was part of the package with the tank, I got a heck of a deal on the setup, 400 pounds of rock, a dozen tangs (vlamingi, purple, clown, yellow, convict, sailfin, 10 year old 10+ inch hippo tang...just to name a few), all the equipment.

u bettered be glad u got good friends to help u with that.

Yep, glad I do Shane, thanks for the help... ^^ this guy made every trip with me and worked his butt off helping me out.... best friend a reefer could ever have.

Looks like you got your self a project

To say the least, LOL.

I like it, twice as long as a 120, and just enough sand bed...love the big cubes but don't really have the spare space for a huge cube...this one is perfect.

Anywho, updates to come this evening!

Just finished blocking up the floor joist that supports the front of the tank, the wall behind the tank thankfully sits on block as well so it should easily supports the load of the tank. Man what a job.....

THANK YOU SHANE (coraltastic) for all the help, no way I coulda knocked this all out today without some help blocking the joist.

Got to clean the tank and it'll be ready to fill.

Plumbing is finished, enjoy the pics!

Tank is just about full, had a few bulkhead issues but got them dealt with (one being that it had a 2 inch hairline crack in it that I failed to notice even after removing it twice and it still leaking lol.

Nice big tank! How are you dealing with all of those tangs while the tank is being set up?

I have a friend with a 6 month old system he had yet to add much rock or livestock to. His system has a 180 display, 75 gallon sump, 110 gallon rubbermaid trough refugium, and a 40 breeder prop tank. All of my livestock and live rock are in his system right now for the time being.

They must be happy in there, the RBTA split after 2 days of being in his system!

Some pics of the livestock Shane (coraltastic) posted to photobucket for me.

Anyways, there are the pics of the livestock in Shane's system that will be moved into the 240 once it has cycled. The 240 is finally up and running now, after the salinity is where I want it will give it a few days to make sure it is stable, then I'll be adding a large amount of the rock and get the cycle underway.

Gonna look awesome once up and going. I love 8 foot tanks!!

Thanks, me too, 8 ft is plenty.

Been planning on a bigger tank than the 90 for a year now, never figured I'd find a full setup in one bulk package though for the price I got it, unreal amount of live rock, guessing it's gotta be around 600+ pounds, it was more than Shane's 180 and 110 sump could hold pretty much, plus I've still got a couple 5 gallon buckets with powerheads stuffed in them full of rock at home right now as well.

Livestock list, waiting in friend's system, as well as the fish in our 90 that (will be moving over when the 240 is ready) off the top of my head:

Purple Tang
Hippo Tang 10 inches
Clown Tang
Vlamingi Tang
Bristletooth Tomini Tang
Yellow Tang
Convict Tang
Orange Shoulder Tang
Sailfin Tang
Lavender Tang
Several Damsels
Pair of Perc Clowns
Engineer Goby
Chromis
3 Pajama Cardinals
Lyretail Anthias (male)
2 Cleaner Wrasse
Leopard Wrasse
Scooter Blenny
Six-Lined Wrasse

3 Skunk Cleaner Shrimp
1 Fire Shrimp
1 Pistol Shrimp
1 Anemone Shrimp
1 Huge Sally Lightfoot (will be living in the refugium)
1 Camel Shrimp (also fuge)
1 Coral Banded Shrimp (also fuge)

2 Green Serpent Stars, may also move to the fuge

Who knows what else I'm forgetting, will get a pic of the tank up in a few.

Water is cleared up now and lookin pretty good, wires are semi organized now but got a bit of work to do still there, just got it out of the way for now and the plugs up off the bottom of the stand.

Got about 400 pounds of live rock transfered into the tank this evening, go go gadget cycle!

you have metal jubilee clips on your return pipe work?? they will corrode causing you issues....nice tank tank, not jealous at all!!!

Got a bit of the rock added, got a lot to go but similar to the effect I want once it is all added. Wanting a decent sized area of sand bed towards the middle, probably make an island to try and keep the anemone in that area (I hope), still tossing ideas around in my head though.
