H.Crispa update.

Very nice bta's sgarron, do your ocellaris like the btas?..I hope this sebae recovers from what ever it is going through. I won't be doing another water change untill saturday. I tried feeding it two very small pieces of raw tuna sunday thinking maybe it wasn't eating the silversides. It looked like it ate both and fluffed up after its meal. Then the next day I noticed a piece behind the rocks. The nassarius snails were delighted to find that food. Maybe it ate one.. I am guessing this is what they look like when they are on the move.

Where the circle is..thats where its foot was attached

It's funny, they used to live in one back in my 65. They don't even look at these though. That's ok though, the anemones are for me. Not them. They can keep hosting in the fuzzy mushrooms and star polyps

Water parameters look good, but obviously it's not happy. Perhaps the water flow in the tank isn't high enough, just guessing.

yeah, I wish I could turn powerheads on, but I am afraid it will cause the sebae to go tumbling. With it not being attached to anything I think turning a powerhead on might be bad idea. Yeah, some thing in the tank is making the anemone unhappy.

Christina - I'm so sorry that it's unhappy right now! Hopefully it'll attach to something soon. Maybe it just took some time to adjust to your lights - and now that it's adjusted it's looking for a better/brighter spot? Just a thought...

Hi, I have a Sebae also. I have had it about 4weeks and it has moved alot. I think its kinda lazy, it doesnt like to hold on. Never really seems to lock its foot in/on.

I also noticed it doesnt like to eat shrimp. It takes small pieces of silver side, also mysis and bloodworms from the fish food.

It seems to be eating well and all settled in , next day its tumble weed city. I really hope it settles in soon, I am worried abotu a powerhead encounter.

Christina,

Might want to try a trick or two. H. crispa is found in sand, but also on rock/coral substrate. Some have a distinct preference, try and split the difference.

I would try clearing away the sand all the way to the bottom of the tank, place the anemone in that depression. Surround the anemone with golfball/softball/football size rubble. Literally build a fortress all the way around it. High enough the flow can not lift it out, say 2" at least.

Then crank up the flow in the tank.

A Crispa that is 5" across the oral disk can easily extend 5" if it wants to, and a healthy attached one will do so laying right across the top of rocky fortress. In my case, tupperware bowls, but to each their own :D

Since your anemone appears to have it's tentacles shrinking, it is not likely getting enough food or actually eating enough. Doubt it will eat much until it settles down, so don't wait too long.

Best of luck.

I don't dare mess with this anemone... once it gets ahold of my aquarium glove it takes about 30 minutes to an hour to gentally get it to let go. So I am a bit afraid to touch it or move it to place it in that fortress you are talking about. I am assuming it looks like this because its on the move. Its tentacles weren't looking this short when it was attached for three weeks. On monday it went back to its original hole and then went back into the open sand again.

This mornings pictures with the MH lights off. I thought I was going to wake up and find it on its mouth. Last night it was on its side and its foot was all swelled up. Good to see that its right side up. I can't stand that I have to keep my powerheads off though..as you can see stuff is growing on my sand from the lack of water movement. Oh well..its giving my conchs plenty to eat. :rolleye1:

looks like my shrimp have eggs again.

yes I have..and it almost made the sebae flip over..this was my koralia #2 that did that. I tried turning on one of the #3s ..that was bad. I still need to replace the #3s with #2s. I am going to try to put the #2 in another place in the tank.
I can definately see that its foot isn't attached to anything. Hmm, I wonder if the PVC pipe trick will work with a sebae.

Sorry it hasn't at least attached to something... I'm suprised that the water movement is making it flip if it's that sticky. With mine even if the foot wasn't attached or dug in - the tentacles would kind of hold it to the rocks glass or whatever... I really hope it gets attached today.

Are you at work or at home?

Hi Christine, ok I will try to answer your questions, Yes I have had my anemone 4 years, give or take a couple months.. :) When I got my anemone the tank was 8 years old, and I had bought the tank 2nd hand and if I remember correctly he had it 12 years. When I purchased my anemone it was bleached like the rest. In the begining I had my anemone under PC lights 496 watts but I did upgrade to Halide. I do feed the Crispa silversides, clams, squid etc . I feed usually 2 xs per week, more in begining. As far as target feeding yea I guess you can say that. I feed it with some cooking tongs, placing and holding the food near mouth until it gets a pretty good grip on it. Yes I have had to fight my cleaners off but I just gave them a little bit to keep them happy.... As far as clowns go, it took my anemone & perc 10 months to have a relationship, and sadly my perc just passed away. He was at least 18 years old..... He came with the tank..... I have just recently purchased 2 orange skunk clowns, which took to him within 15 minutes being in the tank!!!!! I was amazed. I right now run 2 Korolia 3's, powerhead 301, and a Fluval 404 which I want to replace. He is in the back of my tank with fluval flow back there, and the powerheads are more pointing towards the front. I will post a picture in a bit. I need to find one for Kimsie as well. I think I answered all your questions :)

Ok, I think its looking better ..what do you guys think? I am going to try and feed it twice a week like you do georgia. I fed it a few minutes ago but this time I was able to watch it consume its food. Before the anemone was too fluffy and I couldn't see its mouth. I hope it stays where it is at now because its easier to feed. I am finally able to turn on one powerhead..the #2 koralia. After I turned on a power head the anemone started to close its mouth tight again and now looks like this :)

Thanks for answering my questions georgia:D

Good! I'm glad to hear that! I have the same problem with my bleached Crispa Christina - that it's so fluffy it's hard to see it's mouth! But last night I had success...
