H. Magnifica

The water level in my display never changes, even during water changes. It is a 29gl display and a 55gl sump. I can remove all the water I need to from the sump and not even shut the system down.

I just finished reading your whole thread and it's been pretty informative. I'm picking my Mag up tomorrow. We call them Ritteri Anemones here, but whatever...lol. I'm getting a 8 inch one for $38. I can't wait to pick him up. You've already answered most of my questions that I had. Keep it up and keep us updated. I'm a subscriber. Wish me luck.

Hmmm, i have had one for a little over a month and definitely looks much better in the morning than in the evenings. Starts out looking really good then gets a little deflated each evening. Its pretty much directly below 400w MHs so maybe i'm giving mine too much light. PH rises during the day some, so as PH is rising it gets worse, but i don't think that's the issue.

You're probably right about the light. You could try reducing the photo period and see if it helps.

I'll try reducing the light period today and let you know. Early this morning before the lights came on ritteri was looking good. I have not been feeding it much on the advice of Shu Tin (Shutiny) who thought they are very photosynthetic and feedings during the adjustment/settlement period could cause problems if there was any internal damage from shipping and such. When i do feed i'm just giving it mysis and it eats anything presented.

The shipping and LFS often keep them in less then ideal lighting so you need to build them back up so they don't sunburn. I have 250Watt MH in a tall tank, and my lights are on 10 hours/day.

Mine has never turned down a meal, but I usually only feed him once a week. I'm not sure how much feedings my tank could take.

Here's what I got yesterday:

Wow, Mona. That looks awesome. I want a magenta based Magnifica sooooo bad, but my LFS never gets them in. I hope he does well for you. I bet the clowns love it.

Good luck with yours, and post some pics when you get it.

I'm glad you found the thread helpful. I've been keeping it updated just for that reason. Hopefully someone can learn from my mistakes.

elegance coral,
Is your anemone still doing great? It is beautiful. This is such a nice and informative thread so I bump it up.
I recently got a H. magnifica, looking for one for moor than 2 years. It is really hard to find a nice and healthy one here in Corpus Christi. It is about 2 months in my tank now and is doing well.
I find that my Onyx Percula fade with H. magnifica similar to some people experience with BTA. I had Ocellaris with my previous.
Any recent picture?

Unfortunately, about two weeks ago, I lost almost everything. The light company turned the power off at the wrong house when I moved. 10 elegance corals, my magnifica, my gigantea, a couple of fish, and lots of different corals all dead. All I have left are some clown fish, a very ill haddoni, and two very ill LTA's.
