H. Malu sand or rock

I have a quick question, I got in my purple malu yesterday finally after waiting and waiting. Didn't show up in good shape, mouth was open, and I was afraid it was a goner. Once the lights came on it closed up the mouth and started to look a lot better, looking at it this morning and the mouth is still closed and tentacles inflated. Only problem is it hasnt attached to anything yet, I tried making a little cove for it right at the base of rock but it didn't take like I thought it was going to.

Question: Will it attach its foot to the rock under the sand, or should I make a hole in the sand all the way to the glass and let it attach to the glass then cover its foot with sand?

I've had a crispa in the past and it attached to a rock under the sandbed, I wasnt sure if they were similar in nature.

I really like the spot you have it in already. However, it will probably get to much flow and light until it settles in. I could not get mine to keep its foot planted until I turned down my flow and lighting. Hope this helps good luck!

me too!! unfortunately it hasnt attached to anything. I dunno if I should try and place its foot by the rock or make a hole so that it sits flat and hopefully attaches the glass on the bottom. I do have my flow turned down so that it doesn't get blown around

I would place its foot next to the rock. Mine has attached to both rock and glass surfaces, but it originally attached to a rock and eventually moved it's way down to the glass.

Mine attach to the bottom of the tank in sand area. It is a sand bed animal.

That's what i figured would be best, I wasnt sure if sand bed animal just meant that it needs its foot under sand but would attach to rock...I made a hole for it down to the glass (kind of). will it burrow through the little sand layer that is there to attach to the glass or do I have to make sure it's touching bare glass?

N you just leave it alone. You don't have to dig anything. He will dig down to the glass himself.

How long does it typically take? It's on the open sandbed right now with its foot expanded over the sand bed. It has a decent hold as I was able to turn up the flow and its not moving anywhere.

+1 I dug for 2 hours trying to get it to attach. I finally gave up and 2 days later, after floating, it attached to the same place I was trying to get it to, but about 2 inches off. LOL.... Their world... We just enjoy it!

So here's a picture of the anemone..still a nice dark purple color. Hasn't attached yet tho, and the tentacles aren't sticky. Tried seeing today if it had any feeding response but no luck. The mouth is still firmly closed. I take it just have to wait? Getting plenty of light

I was going to wait til it settled to get some clownfish so that I wouldn't get disturbed until it was ready...would adding clownfish actually help it along?

I would wait until the anemone settle before feed it or put clown fish in with it
