H&S Skimmer Club

John,

I tried hooking the output of my ozone to the air inlet but I found I needed a stronger air pump since it hindered the air intake performance but it should work. Instead I place the air line w/ bubbler that came with my unit into my sump. My skimmer started to produce more skimmate and my ORP went up overnight.

I wish I could say which one I was getting but it is a secret!

Your monkey let the cat out of the bag. You are the lucky fella' that is getting Fliger's monster H&S! Ooooooh, if only my wife would say, "sure, go ahead and buy it, it's what you really want. I'll just cut down on some of my shoe purchases and lighten the lunches and dinners for the kids. As long as you are happy, my dear.":D :D

Actually, I haven't told her about the one that I am close to getting/have my eyes on. I'll let you all know how that turns out when it happens.:eek1:

Oops. :)

After I sat down and calculated the electricity costs here on Long Island (which has the most expensive power in the country..even higher than CA...eek) it just make financial sense/cents.

Any words of advice or wisdom out there about owning H & S?

Cool, there is an H&S club!

I wanted to convert my new H&S skimmer to a recirculating model and add a gate valve, Can I use the same parts and use the same instructions relating to Euroreef and ASM? Thanks!! Steve.

I am only at the 'planning to buy an H&S stage', but my understanding was that the grey tube that runs alongside the skimmer acts just like a gate valve without the valve mechanism.

I guess it means that you have the in-sump model because the external is already recirculating.

I just got my a150 today, unfortunately it had a big crack in the base...

I wanted to get an idea on how most people plumb their recirculating skimmers? What are the pros and cons for Gravity and Pump Feed for Recirculating Skimmer? Thanks

I'm sorry to hear that!

Did you contact where you got it from?

Most people will plumb it as a gravity fed skimmer since it saves even more on electricity. If plumbed directly from the overflow, you also get the added bonus of skimming the nasty surface water as well.

Johnsteph10,

I did call www.finsreef.com where I order the skimmer. But I won't receive the new skimmer till Friday... Its a pita b/c I need to repackage the skimmer and wait for the shipping company to pickup.... They were nice at finsreef but I needed the skimmer ASAP.

Thanks for your suggestions about the gravity feed. I'll give it a shot. BTW do you have any pics? The only problem I have is that I only have 1 overflow and don't know how to regulate the flow. Thanks

I just picked up a used A110. Cant wait to replace my asm g1x. I'm going to gravity feed it from the overflow on the 40 breeder I'm setting up.

I've been reading up on ozone lately and thinking about investing in a redsed 50mlg/hr unit with the built in controller. does anyone else use ozone with the a110? Will it make a difference on a small tank like mine?

i spoke with him also but he didnt recommend one way or the other. Just from reading things anthony calfo has written i would like to try gravity feeding it from the overflow.

here's how mine is plumbed.

wow thats pretty complicated.
can someone post pics of how the water exiting the skimmer is plummed? Is the hole in the riser tube just a slip fitting for pvc?

not really all that complicated.a flex tube for one return and i teed the other return with a valve going to the skimmer to regulate the skimmer feed.the other valve off the tee is not really needed.

the riser tube is just a slip fitting but you will need to waterproof the fitting.i was afraid to glue mine, but to much salt creep,so now i use lots of pipe thread tape and so far it's okay.

exactly-just needed to use lots.iv'e seen some people glue it,but i just didn't want to go that route.i've also been pondering a drain in the cup, but i'm a little paranoid about drilling into something that costs what this did,so for now i'll just keep emptying the cup every other day.
