I have a 160 gal tank with a 50 gal sump/refugium. This is a mixed reef with LPS, SPS, and a fairly heavy fish load. Initially, I set the tank up with an H&S 150-F2001 skimmer which is rated to 225 gallons. The H&S did a great job, but out of curiosity, I added a Deltec MC-500 which was previously on a 75 gal tank. Adding the second skimmer has really made a difference in my water clarity. I like the results with two exceptions: 1) The MC-500 is a small skimmer and the cup has to be emptied daily. 2) The MC-500 is downstream of the refugium section, so I'm skimming out pods and planktonic organisms. So, here's my question: 1) Would you recommend staying with this setup, or should I sell the two skimmers and go with something larger such as the H&S 200-1260?
Thanks, Geary
