I have a 160 gal tank with a 50 gal sump/refugium. This is a mixed reef with LPS, SPS, and a fairly heavy fish load. Initially, I set the tank up with an H&S 150-F2001 skimmer which is rated to 225 gallons. The H&S did a great job, but out of curiosity, I added a Deltec MC-500 which was previously on a 75 gal tank. Adding the second skimmer has really made a difference in my water clarity. I like the results with two exceptions: 1) The MC-500 is a small skimmer and the cup has to be emptied daily. 2) The MC-500 is downstream of the refugium section, so I'm skimming out pods and planktonic organisms. So, here's my question: 1) Would you recommend staying with this setup, or should I sell the two skimmers and go with something larger such as the H&S 200-1260?

Thanks, Geary

my tank is a bit smaller than yours, about 150 gallons and i had the 150-f2001 til december , than i bought a 200-1260 and it does a much better job.more powerfull and the bubbles seems
to be smaller to me.

and itÃ"šÃ‚´s much qieter

i would say , the 1260 gives 50% more, and itÃ"šÃ‚´s not that the skimmer is setup for wetter skimming.
the colour of the skimate is the same.

H & s or Geo

H & s or Geo

I am contemplating purchashing 1 of the 2.

H & S is $649 for up to 225 gallon recirc.
Geo is $550 for same.

I am reading here that I might need the $899 H & S skimmer for my 210. Is that true?

I am so confused. Have 25 fish lps,sps softies

Do you think the H & S skimmer rated for a 225 externall would serve my purpose? You seem to not have the success you wanted with it. Did u sell it yet?

if you need a external, i would choose the A 200-1260.
but of course itÃ"šÃ‚´depends very much on the bioload of your tank,
the corals you want to keep an so on.

Thanks

Thomas, thanks for your input. I ordered the 200-1260 from Brian at Finsreef. Now to sell the other two.

Can someone show me some action shots of the A110-2000 please. I would like to see the bubble production and how some folks have it setup. Thanks

I will be getting mine on monday and hopefully have it setup by the end of that week so i will post some pics.

Can anyone tell me how high the bottom of the return is from the ground on the a200-1260? I am curious to know if it will clear the edge of my sump if I run it externally. Thanks.

Drain for Skimmer Cup

Drain for Skimmer Cup

Has anyone added a drain to their skimmer cup? If so, would you mind posting some pics or give information as to the parts you used?

Thanks, Geary

Thanks, Filger. I read about that tank yesterday, and it's an incredible setup. It appears that there is a drain on the skimmer cup. I would imagine that you'd have to have one on a skimmer that size. I wonder how effectively skimmate will drain through a hose into a container. It seems like things would get gunked up quickly, but it would be nice to have when you're not there to empty it.
