Yestarday I bought a small flourescent green haddoni which had been at the store for aprox a week after import. It was attached and looked good so I brought it home. It was placed under shade in an area of the sand bed which is approximately 3" deep. It had dug down and attached to the base of the tank after about 15-20 minutes and so far so good. I tried it with a half inch piece of raw prawn this morning which it took and ate. At approx 7:15 this evening I noticed an interrupted string of brown coming from its mouth. This continued up to 8:00. Is this zooxanthellae ?

Can't say for 100% that it is, but I am pretty sure that it is. My S. haddonis (( the one that I currently have, and the ones in the past )) would do the exact same thing from time to time.
At this point I wouldn't worry about it -- now if it continues to do this, and/or gets lighter would be a bit concerned.

How long had the lights been on? Personally, if it started discharging zooxanthellae at 7:15, I would have the lights start going off at about 6:45.
Since 09:00 BUT It's actually sat in the shade of a 1" thick piece of polystyrene placed between the lights and the surface of the water so it's only getting 'ambient' light. It's now 20:43 over here and as I've been working from home today I've kept my eye on it. No re-occurrance of last nights event and it's looking good at the moment. Thanks for everyones reassurances as I always get a little nervous when something I haven't seen before happens.
