Halide Ballast

Is there a difference in the ballasts used for double ended and single ended bulbs? I'm going to change ballasts, and am wondering if any halide ballast rated at 250 watts will work for double ended halides. Thanks.

Yes, there is a difference.

The standard M58 ballast wont run that double ended 250 watt bulb. You will need to use an M80 250 watt HQI ballast or an electronic ballast to fire a DE bulb.

Of those two ballasts, the M80 ballast will give you significantly more output from the DE bulb than the electronic ballast will.

M80 ballast is your best bet for DE. Electronics will work though
