Hamilton or Coralvue Reeflux?

Quick question,

Should I switch from my Hammy's 250w True 10K to the CoralVue Reeflux 250w 10k? I need to get new bulbs soon. I'll be running them on a magnetic ballast. Which should I go with? I have had pretty good growth on the hamilton's but read a lot of good things about the reeflux's....so I'm not sure.

Thanks.

You know me Sean Hamilton all the way!;)

I tried the coralvue and I dont know if it was me or the bulbs but they were more then wasted @ the 4 month mark....They started loosing their color.

I bought some new 175's Hammy's from you ;) and I was like woah! Yes! Awesome light intesity. They kept their strong lighting and color for 5 months but then were sold for a higher wattage set up.

Upgraded to a dual 250w MH and started off with XM, but were too dull. Then tried some Sunburst and still not happy.

Im destined to buy some Hammys again for this set up I have. They are top notch!

All in all people have their preferences, and I know not many might think the same as another when it comes to lighting up a reef.

Were they Coralvue or the Reefflux? There is a BIG difference! I would not put the Original Coralvue bulbs over my tanks.

Daddyjax, that is one of my main reasons. Better color with equaled growth. The hammy's are yellow without my VHO actinics on. Thanks for the comments, did you switchover from Hamilton? How long have you been with Reeflux now?

Sam, I'm afraid of doing the switch-a-roo like yourself and what if they aren't what I or the corals like. I'm afraid of any adverse reaction to a change in lighting with my corals, I've always used Hammy's nothing else. A better overall coloring would be great though.

Has anyone switched from Hammy's 10k to Reeflux 10k?

I have never used them but have seen tanks with them and while they looked good, the Reefflux looked better. I have been running Reeflux now for a while! I switched from AC14k and my original was Ushio 10k. I use a combo on my Reeflux tank of the 10k and 12k staggered with no actinics. I just posted some pics of my corals on a couple of other threads in here. Check them out!

I am about to switch from hamilton 14k to Reefflux 12k.
From what I have seen and read, I think it will be a good choice.

=)

Daddyjax, can you give me a link to those pics you posted? I'm thinking of a change.

With no supplement and wanting to go with a white/blue bulb would you recommend the 10K or 12K bulb?

I'm on my second set of Reeflux 10k's... the first set were the ones with the pinkish hue, the new ones are blue/white... perfect :) I don't use my actinics anymore except for dawn/dusk. I've used the Hammy 14k's which were considerably bluer, no exp. with the Hammy 10k's though. btw these are run on IC eballasts :)

I will post some picsof a full tank shot soon. To 10k is the perfect white, no yellow!! It really is the best 10k I have ever seen.
The 12k is a cool blue but a very significant blue! I would say that it looks like a 20k but it gives out alot more light than a 20k and the corals respond to it like a 20k in color and a 10k in growth! Great product imo!

Here is one of my holding tanks. I have four 250w Reefflux bulbs 12k-10k-12k-10k over it. They are 6" above the water so you can see some banding. My display tanks are higher up and dont have the banding.

This is the full tank with just the 12k

And this is just the 10k

Here is a small section of the corals with just the 10k

And with both

Both look great, I think I like the 10K better. Nice crisp look to it. Are you using the DE bulb or SE and what type of ballast are you running?

10K with actinics, mine are almost 6 months old and I need new ones I think, where is the best place to purchase them at? I got my last ones from a friend, who ordered them and never used them.
