Hammer Coral Help

I have a hammer coral that i got from the LFS about 3 months ago and it has been doing great up until now. It has this white film stuff all over the parts that are dying. I don't really know what to do, so any help is appreciated. I recently did a water change and that didn't seem to help

Wall or branching? From what ive been reading walls are hard to keep if its been fragged due to you having to cut thru the flesh of the coral itself. Pics would help.

Thank you, I know mine is a wall now. It was doing very well up until now and it was one of my favourite corals:sad1: I guess I should have done more research as I didn't know there were 2 different species. Has there been anybody that has kept these corals? What is the mortality rate? Is there anything I can do for it or anything to stop it from dying?

It's not good for long term. I have one guy in our club with one for about 2 years now, but I have not been as lucky. In my quest for the orange hammer, I have lost 4, and almost $1200. My more recent hammer was the best looking, largest, most orange yet, and cost me the least at $270, however I cringe every morning as I look to see how it's doing. Almost 2 months in, and it seems fine thus far. Time is against me however. :headwally:

Should i try fragging the area where the tissue is dying? It is really too bad as mine has orange and purple tips and green tentacles. I got it for what I thought was a steal at 100$. The LFS had about ten or so frags of them and they all looked perfect and growing. I am very disappointed as the owner said they were extremely easy to keep and I assumed he was right because he was fragging them, but maybe they were fresh from the chopping block so they looked healthy.

You say it's a wall huh. "Fragging" it is out of the question if you ask me. You will more than likely have a paperweight in a few days time unfortunately. Not what you want to hear, so very sorry.

Sadly, this is mostly likely going to happen. My last wall did well for a few months and the same thing like you happened

Walls look amazing everytime I see one but posts like this is what makes me wait to find a branching type. Sorry if your coral doesn't make it.

Thanks anyway, It seems very odd to me how a coral can thrive, and then just hit a wall and die(no pun intended). It would be very interesting to do research in the wild on what these corals have in the wild that we don't have in our tanks.
