Gary I have been wondering what is the longest someone has been able to keep a tang for in their aquarium? I am not even sure what the average lifespan of a tang is let alone how long they are expected to live in captivity for. Does anyone know?

Your insurance is going to go way up next year when she starts driving.

Quit with the teasing and show us a FTS of the new display!

I would post a FTS but there are still soap dishes with corals on the front glass so it would look weird. I hope to glue the last of the corals this weekend, then I can clean the front glass and take a few more photos including a FTS. Here is a close-up of the tang to hold you guys over until then :)

You can kind of see her age in this photo, or at least I think you can, I don't have a younger tang to compare against.

she needs wrinkle cream

I believe this species is known to live 15-18 years in captivity.
To be honest, I've been wondering how you came up with 15 years old.

This fish might be older than 15.

What's that white thing anterior to her rear fin...is that a "Depends" :) ? Congrats Nate and great pics!! You should reveal her whole life story and really upset the Tang Police.

I second Cully. Looking forward to FTSs!

She was acquired by my bosses wife in August of 1995, I got it from her in 2007. So I am estimating she is about 15+ years. I am also guessing she is a girl because I don't know that for sure either! Haha. I just am very fond of this fish. It is so graceful and nice to the other fish in the tank I wanted to take some pictures and share with everyone. I usually don't get attached to fish but this one is more like a puppy than a non-tetrapod craniate. I will be sad when she goes, the good news however is she is eating great and seems to be really healthy. Interestingly enough she spent the first 12 years of her life in a 35 gallon tank. My 65 is a huge upgrade! Pretty wild huh? :fish1:

Beautiful photo. I'll take what I can get. You're on the hook though Nate. Lots of us waiting to see your new venture!

Nice picture Nate. Can't wait to see the final transformation. Did you clear out all your SPS? I know you were moving in another direction with the tank that is why I asked...

Thanks for the compliments on the photos guys! I have been very pleased with my new camera!! On my old camera I used to have to adjust all of the colors and spend a lot of time editing the photos to make them look natural. I didn't have to edit these photos at all! All I needed to do was crop them and add the border+signature. I can't really take any credit though since I just use it on the iA (Intelligent Auto) mode. It adjusts the white balance and everything else for me!

Anyway I didn't get rid of all of my SPS just most of it and all but three colonies. I kept the Porites colony (my very first SPS), half of my Gary M Pink Pocillipora colony (it is still big even thought it was the smaller half), and my Gary M Tri-Color (It's the nicest and most indestructible tri-color I have ever seen). I also kept frags of the URS Red Planet/Table (gotta love that one), the SniperSPS Misty Blue (a gorgeous staghorn), and my drbronx tenuis (amazing color), my Rick M Pavona (Potato Chip Coral), ByTor's electric green milli, and some green SPS that I can't remember the name of (that doesn't happen too often)! So I still have a few left but the tank is mainly a mixed reef. I did my best to highlight photosynthetic Gorgonians, Ricordea mushrooms, clams, and leather corals (especially mushroom leathers) since they are my favorites.

Nice shot. I can't wait to see the FTS Nate. It's always nice to check out one of the primo reefers tanks. I always enjoyed your SPS tank. I’m sure the mixed tank will be awesome as well. Knowing you and your tank ethics I'm sure that even with the frag racks it's still worthy of a FTS now. But we’ll wait lol

no doubt your yellow tang is older than 15 years, Nate. Looks like a female from what I can see. (Absence of white peach fuzz near the caudle peduncle.) Congrats!
