Some of you may have noted that my presence on Reef Central has been sporadic the past month. That was because I have been at one of my favorite places to study stomatopods - Lizard Island on the Great Barrier Reef. Even though the weather was mostly bad and the flight home even worse (due to cancelled flights I was stuck in the Sydney Airport two days), the work went reasonably well. We collected hundreds of stomatopods, mapped over 80 Lysiosquillina burrows, and I was able to photograph and study courtship and copulation in Haptosquilla trispinosa. Below is an example with copulation and ejaculation in progress.
