Has anyone tried this with their clowns and anemone?

I have a pair of clown that do not "be hosted" by my RBTA for more than 4 months. I have frogspawn and torch in my tank and they are not hosting those either. Yesterday I caught them and put them in my sump because they were bullying a couple of new fish that I put in. I plan to put them back into the tank when the new fish settle in. I saw this video a while back and wondering whether it works or not. I don't want to stress out the clowns. Thinking of using a PVC pipe instead of acrylic tube. Has anyone tried this and were u successful? Thanks.

I've never tried it but it sure is a cool idea. I first saw that video about 3 months ago.

I"ve got a pair of true perc's and they won't go into either my SBTA or my RBTA.

Remember the clowns don't do the hosting the coral or the nem does.

Just be careful attempting this. I hear that if it's not the right type of clown in the right anemone, the anemone could sting the clown..

Thanks for the reply. I am talking about ocellaris clowns in RBTAs. I have a few pairs before that "are hosted by" RBTA quickly.

Any anemone can sting any clown regardless if it's its natural host or not if the clowns slime coat is damaged.

What I had working for me is to train the clowns on a ceramic flowerpot and then place tat pot right next to the anemone.

This method is genius IMO and I would not hesitate to recommend. Although there may be some risk associated with strong stinging anemones such as haddoni, there is essentially no risk if we're talking about a BTA, as their sting is very weak. That said, I would make sure you use a very wide tube like that used in the video, as it will offer an escape route if the clown gets stung. Also, you will need a clear tube so that you can see what's going on.

I agree, clowns should never be forced into a nem, it could be harmful to the clowns.

I am surprised that not many have tried this since I saw a lot of threads about how to make the clowns be hosted in anemone. If i end up trying this out, I will report back on whether it works or not.

I have the exact same. A pair of oclleris and a bta...what I did was put the anemone and the rock it has attatched itself to into a strainer in the top of the tank and introduce the clowns with it....they gradually bonded with it and haven't left since
