Hatred of aquascaping!

Am I alone in hating aquascaping? I had a setup I was really happy with, then a coral came loose. To locate it I had to demolish the setup. Could I get it back as I had it, not a chance! So spent ages, got a whole new setup now and still not happy with it. I find it so frustrating, am I alone?

I'm kind of the same way. I like placing the rocks at first...but then I invariably move something and I can't get it back the way I want, no matter how much I fiddle.

I'm the least artistic, least creative person in the world. So I learned to love what I have....XD. Additionally, as long as my wife approves, I am golden.

Agreed, if my other half approves then it's fine. If only live rock was like lego, I'm fab at building lego.

I too am not very creative at all. I did the best I could. I have gotten a few compliments so I am leaving it alone. No more messing with it

Over the years, I've learned one technique that helps: the way a building may put down 'feet' or pilings to give a firm understructure all the way to the bedrock, I lay down some pieces that will always be mostly buried, but that have a good projection above the sand to 'key into' with other rocks. Those are my pilings. It lets me get some caves and tunnels down low in the rockwork, and also gives me a foundation if (as when I laid new floor in the fish room) I have to remove some rock to be able to move the tank.

Do you look at a beautiful reef tank and say "Wow, nice aquascape"? I don't even notice the aquascape.

I sketch out my aquascape ahead of time (roughly) - where do I want a big cave? One island or two? Do I want an arch? How many "big" tunnels? Any big "plateaus" sticking out?

Then I try to find a photo of someone's tank that matches most of my ideas, and just copy their aquascape. :)

Foundation + place the rest to give caves/hiding spots and not interfere with cleaning.

Done.

Its random in the ocean, and its all beautiful, i don't see the need to make it look like art. The stuff that will grow on it will do that, for me.

Well I'm finished and happy with the outcome (finally). Will post a pic in the morning, lights are off as it's night here in Wales, also bit of sand got kicked up. Hopefully in morning all clear and clean up crew are enjoying their redesigned home. Can't wait to actuality put fish in, few weeks yet.

Had what believed to be my perfect 'scape. Pulled a few out real quick to drill some plug holes and couldn't put it back how I had it. Messed with it till I got tired, finally said forget it and went pile o rocks method, erm I mean natural look.

I have a thousand things to think about to keep the creatures happy and healthy. My aquascape is at the bottom of that list! I have a pile of rocks and it is filled with caves and swim throughs. Everyone plays around and has a ball! For right now, until I am expert, I will focus on maintenance and well being. My scape looks very pretty to me!

I have found the less you try to plan it the better, it looks more natural that way, and don't try to make it like you had it before do something completely different and you'll forget about the old scape.

As I said a few pics of my efforts. Hope it remains like that until i get more rock in few months time.
