A stack of old towels.
Paper towel.
Extra filter sox, even if you never use one: if something gets loose that shouldn't, this is a lifesaver.
A bottle of Prime or Ammonia remover...if you have to create safe water in a hurry or fix a dangerous mess. THere is no time to wait for a store to open. And in an emergency, conditioned water is ok as a salt water base.
A sheet of PolyFilter medium: can remove metals and other contaminants.
Carbon.
If you don't know what's wrong, carbon and PolyFilter plus a 30% water change constitute a good response.
And in case of catastrophe, take everybody and the inverts and corals out to buckets and clean new salt water: this lessens the stress on your dt biosystem and may allow it to either have a mild cycle or to recover itself.
Enough salt to make up a very large water change AND fill your qt tank/or buckets.
Disposable exam gloves---these protect YOU when you have to go after something stingy or ooky.
Spare hose. Never throw any hose away; ditto plumbing parts and hose barbs.
Buckets. You can get great 7-gallon buckets if you buy 50 lbs of salt at once. Otherwise go for polystyrene. I avoid color.
A couple of spare pumps of useful sizes. AN oldfashioned airpump with bubbler and hose can come in handy.

great list ! I also have -

an extra heater for mixing water / broken main heater
plastic/acrylic rod for flipping snails is handy also

Plus! A Penn-plax airpump with hose and stone, battery powered. This baby will keep your tank alive until the power comes back on as long as you feed it batteries. It's not a sub for a generator, but until you can afford one, this one can save you.

Make sure u smell that prime before you use it. I had some sitting in a cabinet for some time and it almost knocked me over when I opened it. Not sure if was too be refrigerated but I didn't think of it.

lol i just order one of those. We had a short power outage and I was freaking out.

In addition to the above, I keep a spare return pump and a couple power heads. Battery air pumps and stones have saved me a number of times as well.
