have to ask coral rx or revive? for aefw

well i have to ask which is best and safest to use on the acro's and millepora since both are infected. will start my qt tank this week , i have been basting the little buggers off for now ..then i will dipp and qt for 6 weeks ..that is the plan ..but just want to know what you guys have tried and works out of the two dips coral rx and the coral revive? as i need to go buy one

I have used all of these and Coral RX is the only one that does the job without stressing out my corals. Highly recommend.
 
i dont think they are EXACTLY the same thing. while i have no direct experience with Revive, i have many reviews where the user says it stresses the coral pretty badly. I have had great experiences with Coral Rx..knocked all the AEFWs off one of my sps corals after two dips. whichever you choose, you will need to scrape the eggs off manually, as neither of those products kills the eggs.

I strongly disagree, there is no evidence (that I am aware of) that these are the same product. Highly likely that it has some of the same ingredients since it smells the same. Other than that it's totally different in my opinion. I've had great luck with it, not so much with Revive.

If you have actual information that supports your theory, please provide.
 
revive is harsh?

Never had it hurt any of my sps even at 10x the dosage. Typically one capful per small frag cup. Forgot a few times and left the coral in there for hours without a problem.

Haven't tried coralrx, but revive + turkey baster has never failed for aefw.
 
thanks going to see what the lfs has for me and then need to setup the qt tank alot of work but guess it will pay off..just basted the corals and got 6 flat worms off man i hate them they float like a leaf till they hit an acro then wraps itself on the acro and you can't see it anymore unless you know exactly where it is ..these things are the nastiest critters i have ever seen they stick to everything i tried this stuff by seachem called coral dipp and it is like an iodine based treatment well they just laughed at me ..i collected six worms put them in a container and added the solution nothing ..will update what happens when the new stuff is added to a new test batch..thanks for the suggestions i would not wish these worms on anyone's corals just nasty , I have A name for my pain and it is called AEFW, acro eating flat worms.

I'll also have to disagree. I've used both and had very disimilar results.

To the OP, I'd highly recommend Coral Rx. Kills or stuns just about everything, while having a very mild effect on the corals.
 
I have had great luck with Revive the only coral I have ever heard of it harming is ORA hawkins or other Echinata corals. I lost two Echinata corals to revive but no other corals were stressed or harmed in any way.
 
I thought they were the same too.

So I just saved my money and bought pine sol instead of either.

:) Thats pretty funny. I have always used Revive with good luck so far, but some of you have me convinced to try Coral Rx next time. Does CoralRx knock off Red Bugs? It mentions about everything on their site except RB.

well another round of basting has yielded less bugs got 2 big ones and noticed alot of little ones must have hatched so will keep up the basting till the qt tank is ready i went from a dozen big ones to 6 earlier in the day to 2 tonight hopefully i get alot of the little ones and the fish learn to eat them faster by the time i get the qt going i should be dealing with babies and eggs , dipp should take care of the babies then will work on them as they hatch for the duration of 6 weeks i have noticed one weird thing , my purple pocillipora had some at the base i heard they don't eat those so hit it anyway and they where there hmm guess he is going in qt too all except the lps just to be sure.
again thanks for all the help hope it works out for the corals sake and my mental capacity as i am slowly loosing it ..
 
Ive used Revive for my SPS. Revive is very gentle on corals and wont fade color. Only coral that did not take well to revive was the Hawkins.
 
Coral Rx may not kill Red Bugs, always, but it does knock ALL of them off of corals, instantly! I actually tested this, with an A. valida that was covered in Red Bugs, from a friend's tank. I did a 10 minute bath. The second the frags hit the solution, all of the Red Bugs fell off and sunk to the bottom. Over the next 24 hours, I examined the Red Bugs, several times, for any signs of life, with a magnifying glass. I never saw one move.

I've had similar results, with Melafix, although it wasn't as instant.

I've used them both but the Revive is much cheaper.
They both smell the same and look the same. I'm not paying double for something that works the same way.

Maybe you're just not using it correctly, the directions tell you one thing, but it's best off to start off slow and not aggressively dip them.

I still think they are the same, unless someone can come up with the chemicals that were involved and break it down for us all.
