I got a little camera crazy a few days ago...

Picked these guys up from Sustainable Aquatics at the Knoxville swap. I never would have thought to buy fang blennies, but since Matt raised them, I had to have a pair. I'm loving them. They add color and activity to the tank. I don't know if I got lucky with a male and female, or if they'll grow out of the comraderie phase, so I'll keep an eye on them.

An ORA tricolor

From an ORA valida

A different tricolor (fishdoc) (garf PB in one of the general tank shots-also from fishdoc-can you tell I like tricolors?).

Not sure what this one is, but is similar to the Aussie delicate. It has more color, though.

Not sure on this one, either. Gomezi? Colors like a Ca tort.

What I think is A. mulitacuta. I think the ORA Phil's granulosa is the same.

Any clue on this one? Not even sure of rough genus.

I'm thinking of calling this one the Emerald Forest Fire Near An Icy Glacier Bay Monti (or for marketing purposes, EFFNAIGBM:D). What do you think:D?
purp-rim-undata.jpg

This one is similar, but isn't undata-ish (more danae-ish). It's the Evergreen Forest Fire Near An Icy Glacier Bay Monti (blue rim forming-EFFNAIGBM for short:D).

Pic intense is right. I think that is the most pictures I have seen in one post.

They are awesome though, I can't wait till I can do that. Very nice tank.

Wow Gary, Great shots, I love your full tank shots, but all that stuff in the tank is just super. I think I may have to get a couple of those fang blennies, cute couple.

Thanks for sharing those awesome pics and guess you have fully mastered that camera now eh?

Norman

Holy cow. Awesome shots and corals, Gary. I love the fang blennies and the spotted watchman, too!

Exactly what defines a tricolor?

Could you bring me one of everything at the swap? :D

J/k... I don't have room for all of that!

great shots love the tank specially those fang blennies and after lookin at that link i got some tulips to take care of ( ithought they were pretty)

OMG this puts my little nano to shame. I am hoping my new 58g will look even look a fourth of what this one does. Something to look forward to huh? Well off to sand the cabinet down.

Thanks everybody. Definitely haven't mastered the camera, but I'm starting to get better (still have to do some auto level adjustment on T5 shots). I was always too lazy to unplug everything (still don't have my ACIII completely controlling the system). Having no current does wonders. A good lens and a remote are a must.

DawgDiggity,

Sadly, those all originated from me. I gave her warning, but didn't know they'd do that (all of those started with 2 that I got from coralreefing several years ago-$8 an anemone, I think). When sghe said she was starting over because of the tulips, I felt horrible... They do die a lot easier for me than majano's and aiptasia. These actually come off the rock sometimes (complete foot) and are easy to scrape off if on the move. Kalk pasting has worked in the past and is about to have another go. After the move, I lost all of my fish (and SPS), so I started the system over again with a number of peppermint shrimp. I didn't feed for weeks and didn't see more than three or four tuilps (no majano or aips). I feed too much for that to work now. I can't keep my pH up, anyway, so here I come Mrs. Wages (if I can find some-Jenn says she can't find it at the grocery down here anymore).

Brandon,

They are supposed to have three colors (usually green, purple and brown, though some eventually lose the brown). The ORA valida used to have more of a greenish hue over the brownish area. It browned out, but is coloring back up. Most tricolors are valida-ish corals, too, but there aren't really any rules;). The one from fishdoc (alot of this came from fishdoc hooking me up after the move:)) has turned completely purple over the last two months. Since getting the ca rx dialed in, the colors have exploded.

gflat....would you mind a pm asking some questions about sps you seem to know your stuff and that is a beautiful tank. it will probably be tomorrow after work before I can ask all the questions I have.

I will also be posting some more questions on the board as I seem to get a better response here than on my local board....with these ?'s I feel like a total newb but I guess we all are still up for some learning.

Gary- Looking good and nice to see you around again.

On that unidentified green piece... I saw a very similar looking coral that was labeled as a cyphastrea ????. I know it isn't a decadia, but there is another species that encrusts and looks similar to a monti. Have a look through the books you've got and see if you can't find anything.

I need to get a purple bonsai...

Plus a tripod. :) I got a knock-off remote for my D50 for about $10 shipped, but had to wait on it to come from China. :D

Lotoftats- That won't be a problem:). I'll be glad to help all I can. I'm no pro, but have finally found what works for my lifestyle/habits. There is a lot of short term memory involved (like when a pitcher gets taken yard and has to pitch again right away;)). There are a number of good resources in this area for SPS (well, the TN area, not the ULA area-upper lower Alabama:D).

Brian,

I'll start looking at some other Cephastrea species. This guy has small polyps that look a little like a Pocillopora, but there are other things about it that don't at all. It definitely packs a sting (several corals have come up on the wrong end of the stick after flirting with disaster). It's a weird one. It does encrust, though (or seems to be doing so).

The garf PB really stands out once it starts getting color. I had alk and ca issues for a long time (just couldn't seem to dose enough and kept chasing my tail on the DIY two part). I got a kent marine two part to try something different, and things balanced finally. No real explanation why, but it did stabilize. Then I started playing with the Ca Rx I'd had for almost a year without hooking up. After correcting a number of production issues (the cutting tip must have been dull because I could not get a seal until I sanded the ORing grooves). Then the alk went through the roof (~18dKh) and of course, calcium bottomed out at 220 or so. I made a few adjustments to the effluent out (and the CO2 in to keep the effluent pH) and dosed the calcium part of the Kent for a week and everything seemed to fall into place. When the alk spiked, the color of my corals was incredible. I thought I must have gotten something right until I picked one up and the tips crumbled easily (telling me the calcium was probably low). It seems to have balanced out and has been holding steady for several months now. The biggest gains in color and growth have come in the last month, I'd have to say.

I started adding kalk to my top off since my pH drops to 7.8 at night, but my wife says she hasn't seen any pickling lime at the grocery the last few times. Gotta find some... I'm just happy to have somethign I can really enjoy again. It has been a while. Now, I've got to get the LPS/softie tank looking good again. The corals are healthy, but the ca/alk balance isn't right yet and dictoya algae rules the tank. I put in a tuxedo urchin yesterday, so we'll see how long it takes him to clear it up. Freakin rics did this to my tank (Caribbean algae)...

I got some shots of Jenn's tank last night, so I'll get them posted soon. Her fish are impossible... I just got a red scooter yesterday, so I'm trying to get a good shot of it. Her tangaroa goby and pistol have built a caves on the front corner of the tank (I tried to make them stick to that spot and the stars aligned). I'm going to get them sometime, too. The Cinnamon clown female attacks the tangaroa and I thought she was going to eat the scooter when I dropped it in last night. It's still kicking around after a feeding diversion (she was directly over it, less than 2" away for a while and she paid it no mind the rest of the night).
