Hawaii Fish Order

Ryan, Don't expect (or ask) them to ship them the day after they collect them. You really need to let the fish go through a destressing period to where they begin eating again and are healthy, then they would be best starved for a day or two before shipping them (so that they do not foul their transport bags/water). Just some suggestions based on experience.

Best of luck to you.

"Distressing period" new one on me Toim :D A day or two of claening out would be fine for everything on this list, if they're all fairly small :D

Hey guys,

Due to some un-planned circumstances, I got my flame wrasse harem early (much earlier than I had planned for, actually). I guess I was the second person to send payment (I'm p-deezy on the original thread, I changed my RC nickname yesterday). The first guy in line couldn't take them or something, I dunno. But, I can tell you that you won't be disappointed. The male that I got is just plain awesome - and the 3 females are really cool too. All of them have been eating frozen mysis from day 1. They're absolute PIGS! All of mine have been very healthy and active so far and peaceful towards my shrimp goby & spotted dragonet.

I've been reluctant to post this because I didn't want others to wonder how I have mine already. I don't know the exact details, but Ryan got these unexpectedly and had a very late night (like 1am-ish) scramble to figure out who to get them to. Maybe he can chime in and fill in the details.

Here's a pic of the male, and 1 female. I'll take some better pics later tonight and post them:

I don't know if this post will make things better or worse for those of you who are still waiting for your fish. I got mine, same deal as you all, and they ROCK! I'm very happy with this purchase. Feel free to hit me with any questions that you might have.

Best regards,
-Pat

Think that was merely hopefull speculation. Bottom line though, he is at the mercy of the collector. As tcnguyen pointed out, these fish arent jumping out of the water on to the boats, and the 2 weeks of collection time sounds like best case scenarios, which due to the weather recently is just not the case :(

Ahhh, the glories and unsung wonderment of group buys :D I dont think Ive encountered anything more stressfull in this hobby than organizing a group buy. I've done 2 myself, and as cool as the end result is, I wouldnt wish the process of getting from A to B on anyone.

Pat,

Cool pics! Although I am not an expert... but are we sure those are flame wrasses? All the other google pics I saw were a bit different in color. I am definitely not the expert in telling wrasses apart, just hoping one of you are!

Thanks!

definately a hawaiian flame wrasse... check out marine center, they've got them listed... check out there price on them too!

MrMikeB,

I'm far from an expert myself (and an even worse photographer!), but I'm pretty certain that these are in fact flame wrasses. The pics don't do them justice. I'll get some better pics tonight for everyone. I was going to last night, but got busy.. doh!

This page: http://www.marinelifephotography.com/fishes/wrasses/deep.htm has pictures of a male and a female in the wild. Scroll down to Cirrhilabrus jordani. When the male 'displays' he raises his fins and looks like the marinecenter.com picture. The females do this also, but to a lesser extent and their fins are smaller and less pronounced. My male really does have deep red and bright yellow, closer to the marinecenter.com picture... my pic just doesn't show it that well. I didn't do any white balance stuff with my camera, just pointed and clicked, so the color turned out more pinkish-purple than red (like it is in real life). And I noticed the males eye has a weird reflection that makes it look cloudy, but it's not. Stay tuned for better pics, I'll also try to make a video (if I can figure out how to do that).

Regards!
-Pat

Very cool! I was sure it was the color of the pics that threw me - which is pretty difficult to nail down the right white balance.

Here's my attempt at a video. Photobucket reduced the bit rate when it converted it, so it's a little pixelated...

If anybody is interested, I am selling my position in line for the flame wrasses. Basically if you PayPal me $200 that I paid for them and when Ryan gets the fish in, you take my place in picking them up. This way Ryan does not have to worry about the refund, I do not have to wonder when they will arrive, and you get the fish! Everybody is happy :D

still don't have a definate date on when fish will be collected and shipped but looking at the weather report for the next 10 days it looks promising... but we know how accurate the weather people can be... with that being said, it looks promising with only a 10-20% chance of precipitation. but i have seen the same forecast a couple times over the past 2-3 weeks. now hopefully the water clears up so he go hunting!

thanks for hanging in there on this everyone! i'll keep everyone posted as things progress.

i don't mind to be last person pick this up.thanks again ryan

lapsan

thanks for staying patient with this lapsan... once this weather can stay consistently clear, i'm hopeful he'll be able to get rolling with collection and everyone should be able to get their fish.

Ryan,

I am cool as for as long as it takes as long as my fish are still in safe keeping (like the ocean works well for that). I still have nightmares (just kidding about the nightmares I just added it for dramatic impact) over turtles being lost at SFO for a week (however I did actually have a turtle stuck at SFO for an entire week or so I think).

thanks for the link Gresham... pretty detailed weather report.

looks like they're still getting rain... it's been hard to tell with the yahoo weather report but with the link that Gresham just posted, seems like they've been getting afternoon rain.
