I just want to introduce myself, my name is Tom and I live in Cheektowaga. I've been spending ALOT of time reading and researching on RC, specifically the URS forum this past month. I'm in the early planning stages of my first reef tank after dabbling in freshwater a number of years back. You're all such a wealth of reefkeeping knowledge, and I'm happy to say that I'm addicted.

You've all convinced me that I MUST HAVE a litttle piece of the Caribbean in my home. Looking forward to my reefing experience.

because of import restrictions it will be easier (and much more legal!) to set up a Pacific reef aquarium than a Caribbean one. I've been to Aruba. I'd love to go to Bonaire. Was it nice?

Gary, Bonaire was absolutely beautiful, definitely one of my favorite places on earth. We were only in port for one day --- if there ever is a next time, I'll visit for a week. If you ever get the opportunity to get there, do it, by all means. The snorkeling was breathtaking.

BTW, your tank is awesome. Loooking forward to picking your brain in the weeks and months to come.....Tom

Welcome. Why stop at the the Caribbean? The animals from the IndoPacific ,the Great Barrier reef and Hawain areas are nice too. i

sealifeinc.net has a pretty good variety of Caribbean livestock if you decide to stick with that plan. We're in the final stages of a group buy from there right now, over in the Syracuse area. It would be pretty easy to do a mixed-source tank that had a strong Caribbean look - you could use stony corals from the Pacific along with gorgonians and fish from the Caribbean, for instance.

Based on your ID, I am guessing you have been to Bonaire. I have been there a few times and found the reefs are nice for snorkeling.

Hello Tom. definitely take Gary's advice and make a road trip to Rochester to check out the shops they are among the very best, ABC reefs in SYR is top notch also.
