Hey everyone, finally getting my reef tank up and running. New to the hobby, used to have a 150 gallon FOWLR tank but never got into the reef setup until now. Picked up a Fluval Evo 13.5 to start with since our current apartment won't allow anything over 10 gallon. I figured they would never know the difference between a 10 gallon and 13 gallon :lmao: Finally got the cycling part done now to start the slow adding process any suggestions!

Welcome and congrats on the new setup. Let me know when you're ready to try some hearty sps.

Thanks SWK, I definitely will let you know. The waiting part right now is the hardest part! I love the setup CRreef!! I wish I could do a bigger setup. Hoping to buy a house next year already told my wife that when we do I am getting a bigger setup!

Its coming along slowly but surely! Got my first peice in there and seems to be doing good so far! Got a bit of algae outbreak, think I had the lights on too long so put them on a 7 hour timer now. Hopefully that with some chaeto in the side compartments will help out with the algae and keep the nitrates down a bit.

Welcome to wcr! Suggestions.... hmm, well I will tell ya that the smaller the system the harder it is to maintain from getting any parameter swings. I would recommend hardy corals such as some Lps, zoas, or softies to start out with, while you acclimate to learning how to keep ur system happy and stable. Once the tank matures and you feel like you've got a good understanding and a grasp on things then I would venture into buying some of swk awesome sps frags [emoji6]. Reef tanks can be tough and challenging in the beginning for a new reefer. Just remember to take things slow, balance nutrient import and export, qt fish and coral if you want to guarantee no un-needed pests entering ur main system, and last but not least. Test! Test! Test! alkalinity/dkh is the most important and most constant one that I test. Make sure you test it at the same time every time u test. So for me I test my dkh at 6pm every time I do it. But other than that just be patient and let the tank mature, and add things one at a time. Best of luck [emoji16]

thanks! the gsp was the first thing I added the next things I was looking at were zoas and a frogspawn. been doing my water tests pretty much everyday and did 20% water change this weekend. built a new intake media basket and also started a small chaeto refugium in one section of the media basket so hopefully that hellos with stability

Here is a pic of the media basket I made! I am currently running a carbon pad, a nitrate removing pad, biomax and the chaeto in one compartment. Eventually I will remove the big fluval sponge filter from the second compartment of the tank and put the chaeto in there so it has more room to grow. Any other suggestions for filter media?
