Help! I've got a Koran Angel that I believed to have Ich, but after two weeks of hypo it hasn't gone away at all. I've followed every instruction for treating with hypo and have kept everything in the hospital tank balanced perfectly and at 1.009 for two weeks. However, he's still got white funk all over him. What's going on??? I'm thinking about raising the salininty back up and going the copper route. Any other ideas???

Thanks,
J

I think that's an excellent idea. Bring the salinity up to 1.015 and hold it there. Add copper and or formalin based med. If fish is still eating soak food in garlic for 20 min. Try multiple feedings throughout the day.

It would help to clarify the problem as slider indicates, but I would do exactly as Percula9 stated. I would skip the formalin bath and just do the copper if the fish is extremely stressed.

The spots look like white salt crystal chunks all over his fins. There are a few small spots here and there on his body, but not many. I'd take a picture, but my digital camera is at my girlfriends house. Might be able to get it back tonight.

I would keep this fish in hyposalinity for at least a total of 4 weeks.

Make sure to monitor the salinity daily as well as the pH and ammonia levels.

hypo will only work if you keep track of the salinity and make sure evap doesn't bring it over 1.009 whatsoever. ich will stay on the fish for up to 7 days, but if any time during that the salinity goes over 1.009 it won't die and keep reinfecting. keep the fish in hypo for 2 weeks AFTER the last ich cyst is off the fish.

are you sure it's ich and not lymphocytis?

A picture is worth a thousand words ... "white funk" is not your usual description of ich. Since hypo is only effective against ich make sure thats the disease you have - a google search should give you plenty of good pics of fish with ich.
