This was a hitch hiker on my LR. Can someone help me ID it?

It looks like that atlantic anacropora or acropora species that SHelinski used to have...A. orbicularis or occularis or something like that....

could also be a pavona maldivensis.... I'm reaching.

Bah!!! I was close! Just couldn't find the old thread or exact name. It is an SPS. Not very common. Cool pick up for sure!!!!

possibly very important:

possibly very important:

what's the origin of the liverock that coral grew from?
did the rock come from another reef aquarium or was it recently imported?

This coral doesn't appear to be a tropical Atlantic Oculina to me but what the heck do I know? :)

It was sold to me as Premium Fiji LR. It was purchased locally. I've got a couple more shots of it. Also more of it on other parts of this rock and another that I have.

I don't know how to but maybe I should frag this and get it into a couple more systems in the area as a backup. Sounds like it might not be quite as common as I suspected.

the rock seen in the picture's background sure doesn't look like Fiji rock.... can you get a better shot of the rock?

FWIW Oculina isn't terribly uncommon on Tampa Bay rock.

Some more shots

Some more shots

Here are a few more shots of it. The area near the oral discs has recently started to turn green but I don't have a picture of it like that. Also a section of it now looks bleached since I added the new rock.

I'll take a few more shots today when the lights come on.

Thanks all for your help identifying this.

This was the first LR that I ever purchased and I sure didn't know the difference. I purchased it at SWP locally and I was told that it was Premium Fiji Live Rock. I thought it looked great but certainly couldn't have identified it's origin then or now. You've been doing this a lot longer than I and I trust your judgment.

It certainly was loaded with life. Two baby urchins crawled out of the rock about a month after I had it in my tank. They were only a couple mm in diameter at the time. I attached a shot of one of them now. There was also what I think is a Tunic, several clams or oysters, and a couple of other things that I have to get good photos of because I will need help identifying those as well.

Buffalo guys need to chime in!

Buffalo guys need to chime in!

isn't SWP known for selling Florida rock?

It's where Steve got his Oculina from............

those types of urchins usually come in on Gulf rock.

Beautiful rock, BTW- some of my fav except for the occasional mantis shrimp.
