Help me decide

Hello all,

I am a tortured beginner hobbyist, trying to make the hard choices. :) I have been laboring over a decision on how to dictate flow in my 90 gallon. I am on a budget, & I realize that Tunze are not really for the hobbyist with tight purse stringes, (not that I carry a purse... :P) but I want to make wise choices now, instead of something I will regret later.

What product(s) from Tunze would best cover a 90? It will be awhile before I have corals in my tank, & I will start off with LPS, with a (very) longterm interest in having SPS. What devices from Tunze are recommended for a tank this size, that will take care of me in the long & short term? I dont want to have 15000 powerheads in my tank, or 160000 pumps hanging off the back, with tubing running everywhere.

I am posting this in the Tunze forum, mainly because its a Tunze product that I am looking at ATM. I welcome all opinions though.

No one???? Would a wavebox be sufficient? A single 6100 & a controller? A single 6000 & controller, or two 6000's without a controller (controller would be several montsh down the road)?

Advice would REALLY be appreciated here. This is pretty much the one chance I am going to make a purchase like this.

Hi Travis,

Sorry for the delay, Roger is out of town all this week which is why he hasn't responded yet.

Knowing exactly how much you have to spend will really be the frist step in making a recommendation. I think ultimately two 6000's on a multicontroller would be the way to go for a soft/lps setup. The nice thing about it is if you ever do get bit hard by that sps bug you can completely upgrade those 6000's to the 6100's.

If the price of the two 6000's with the controller is too much to spend right now, which I think you kind of hinted at, then you might take a look at doing just one of the 6000's and the multicontroller. If you have a strong enough return pump just one of the 6000's would get you by until the tank really starts to get heavily stocked.

Yeah, thats a HUGE hit at around $750. Not that the hit at $500 for a multi & 6000 would feel better, but ya get what ya pay for. (I hope!!!)

I am just afraid of having big deadspots with only one powerhead. If I were to buy two powerheads to make up for possible deadspots, then I cant afford the controllers, & am afraid of laminar flow.

ARGH!!!!

I understand the money issue. I really do think that two 6000's would be the way to go. If you already have powerheads then you could use those to supplement the one 6000 for the time being, and then always buy another when $$$ permits.
