Coming out of 180 so I can tear it down to move. New tank will be about 2 months under construction and cycling. ABC has offered to baby sit, but that puts them at risk of being back in general population.

What are BARE minimum requirements for an FO system? What size tank can I realistically expect to keep them in for 2 months? I have access to a 65. And I'll be keeping frags in a 40B.

Split em up?

Help me!

If I was going to try to create temporary housing, I'd probably set up a few rubbermaid tubs or kiddie pools with a hang-on power filter, heater, and a few powerheads in each, plus live rock from your established tank, and plan on frequent heavy water changes. Running a few smaller setups gives you the chance to segregate to prevent aggression in such a cramped setting, or feeding problems, or the spread of disease if there's a stress-related outbreak etc. Even with a cheap rig like this though, you probably run a certain risk of spending a fair amount compared to the street value of the fish.

I agree that the LFS is a slightly risky proposition. Even with the best care, you can't expect them to run a dedicated system for your livestock, and in the "general pop" they're gonna be exposed to whatever comes in with each weekly shipment. . .

There must be hobbyists in the area willing to babysit for you? If my tank wasn't so brand spanking new, I'd offer to hold them.

Just realized you said you have access to a 65 and will have a 40b set up. Do you have equipment to run either of those?

My brother is tearing down his 55g planted within the next week or so and giving it to me. Also have a few clunky old lights kicking around (a 4' 2-tube VHO rig, a 3' PC rig) and a canister filter if you need to borrow equipment for your temporary arrangements.

I will have access to lighting and filtration. The problem comes, not in maintaining their temporary home, but the actual move it's self.

I will certainly have my hands full on moving day WITHOUT the fish tanks. Moving the 40B was going to be a big enough PITA, but trying to keep a system running for the fish too, moving it, having enough RO and Fresh salt water, will prove quite daunting......

I'm screwed.....

Perhaps a Temp holding tank at ABC, then move them to my new house. Stressful yes, but beneficial once they are under my nose again......UGH!

p.s you offer is very kind, I will keep it in mind for sure!!!

Thanks for the offers! I'm thinking now, that the Rubbermaid stock tank might be the sturdiest, most practical, option.

What sizes do they come in? And where can u get them locally?

tractor supply usually has them around 100 gallons. at least the one in auburn does. might try countrymaxx too

I would try the large "horse troughs" as well. Those things have worked before to my knowledge. Some people I know use them as permanent coral systems as well.

Do you have a moving day in mind yet?

When my 75 sprung a leak my entire reef spent ~7 weeks in a 70 gallon rubbermaid and a 20 tall. 1 acan lost that fell upside down and 1 brittle star that I cooked when I was transfering into the 120 and left the heater in in the rubbermaid.
