I run a Bubble King Super Marine 300 Internal and the DT is an ATM 540 gal with a 300 gal sump.....its a fish only with about 60 fish and this skimmer just rocks ....clean it once a week and after its dialed in it has truly been set and forget other than cleaning it....

I would recommend you the SUPER REEF OCTUPUS EXT-5000 work great easy cleaning not complicated the installation.

Quick Question to revive this thread a little. I see two models of Reef Octopus skimmers that are 8000 series external.

One is the SRO-8000EXT($2,275.99) and the other is the SRO-XP8000E ($1399.99).

Which one are you recommending?

Xp 8000 External is better

But reefflo orca pro 3 might be a better built skimmer

Btw I am thinking of switching to XP 8000 ext to change my existing Reefflo ocra 250 pro with dart gold since I have 100+ fish and wants more But I don't know how better it can be.

What i really want is to get my hand on Spazz volcano

Mine is the SRO xp8000e. It is cheaper than the other model and very easy to clean. Uses the bubble blaster pump 10k. I purchased a second BB pump and change them out for maintainence. Get the neck cleaner also. My system size is similar to yours. Good luck.

How do you like it? How often do you have to clean it? How long did it take to get it dialed in and do you have to fuss with it a lot to keep it dialed in?

Thanks for your help!

It took a week to dial in and I have not changed it. I wipe down the neck every week to help with any build up but I have gone 2 weeks with a lighter bioload. The main issue is to keep the pumps clean internally from collecting any precipitation of mineral. If my water level changes in the skimmer, I know it's time to clean the BB pump or sometimes the sump to skimmer pump which is an Eheim 1262. The drainage cup drains into my adjacent work sink so that helps a great deal as well. Adding Kalkwasser in addition to CaCl and soda ash, I clean the BB in HCl about every 2 months for optimal performance. It is easy to swap out a BB 10k for my spare with a water change and then break down and clean the original pump.

These are top of the line you should check them out before you buy:)
Best of Luck!!!

What skimmer is that :eek2:

I'd definetely get SRO over the ETSS. I've owned both and currently love my 5000 External with neck cleaner.
