It really sucks. I just went home for lunch and through a miraculous chain of events, my male true percula is dead. Can I re-pair the female with a smaller clown? Should I try right away or wait? Any help would be appreciated, I am devistated to say the least. Thanks again.

Sorry about your loss.

You can re-pair them. The key is to get the smallest clown you can. Definitely get a tank-raised one in this situation, because you can be more confident about the age.

As for timing, that depends on why the other died. If it's disease, I'd wait a little while. If it got sucked to a powerhead, or something like that, you could go faster.

I should also say, since it's the male you lost, there's no rush to add another. The larger female will just stay female, so nothing will change there.

Thanks Dave, he was sucked away in perfect health. I was not sure about putting in a little guy. I just wanted to check with others before I have another clown fatality on my hands. Thanks for the information.

I had purchased a 5 year old bonded pair of ocellaris from my lfs several months ago. Bother were large, healthy fish that he had in a store display since they were tiny juvis. Found the male dead in my overflow three weeks later. Waited a couple weeks and added a small one. They have been inseparable ever since, with no posturing or aggression. Good luck!

I would try and find out why your male died to begin with. check your water parameters and if all is good I would wait a couple weeks incase there is some kind of disease in the tank. At least it wasnt the female. Now you can get a new male at your leisure.
