Ok I have several SPS corals starting to show the same thing the new growth is dying turning brown and starting to grow algae. It is hit and miss some corals show it some do not. So far I have monti caps, and a few different acros, and birdsnests. Any ideas?

Here are some pics.

Alkalinity burn comes to mind when STN occurs at the tips... Have you tested with a reliable test kit? I would certainly test alk, ca, and mag with good test kits, post up and maybe we can at least diagnose or help:) You are definitely receding at the base, the algae is growing on the dead skeleton, any other areas of these corals infected? Regards

correction ^^^^ I meant you are definitely receding at the "tips" not the "base" I should know better than to post this early, perhaps go back to bed...lol

Looks like it could be alk burn to me... New growth is most sensitive to the burn too. Also could be high nutrients. I had the same problem for a long time. My kalk additions thru top off was fluctuating because of changing evap rates causing an unstable kh. Also doing waterchanges with salt with a way higher kh than the tank caused it.
