Hi, Last week we added a Red Velvet Wrasse to our 100 gallon tank. Other fish in there are a bicolor angel, a juvenile maroon clown, and the above mentioned anthias. The anthias totally intimidated the wrasse, who hid out for about three days and then started venturing out into the tank and is now pretty much out all the time. The square back isn't botherig the wrasse, but neither is he eating. This is day two of the hunger strike. I've tried soaking in garlic, mysis and zooplankton. When I bought him the LFS said he needs to eat several times a day because he has a small stomach. What should I do?

Go get some live brine shirmp. This should stimulate a feeding response. You just have to get that response and get him eating again and then slowly switch him over(keep feeding the others and he will come around) make sure you soak the live brine in RO water for a while for parasites....I had a dispar that did this when i introduced a fish and used live brine to get that feeding response back for a few days(dont spoil him on live brine because it wont sustain him).

Thanks, I couldn't find any live brine shrimp so tried some little tiny guppies....now feeding response from the anthias tho the wrasse thought it was great stuff. I've decided to quarantine and do a formalin dip, however catching him is proving to pretty much impossible. Frankly I surprised he isn't weaker considering he hasn't eaten now in 4 days.

guppies....not good...however....if your getting that feeding response then the benefit outweighs...thats excellent

DONT QT HIM---YOU ARE GOING TO STRESS HIM AND LEAD HIM TO HIS DEMISE....just keep your water pristine and get him eating....is there a visible reason for a formalin dip(this will really make him stop eating maybe for good) if not dont do it and even so the best route might be the good water and nutrition

When he starts eating the guppies-------put some sweetwater zooplankton,, frozen cyclopeeze, or blended mysis/clam and the zooplankton/cyclo in there as soon as he starts hitting the guppies....that response will lead him back into that good stuff.....also add a couple of drops of garlic to the blend
