The only thing I can think of is P. ciliata, but that isn't a smasher. But the fact it changed color so readily (and it was yellow before right?) makes it sound even more like P. ciliata. a mutant smashing P. ciliata maybe? no too far fetched and unlikely but that is the only thing that comes to mind. Maybe a species not on roy's list? that is more likely......

he was nuclear green before. I hope roy comes in and gives me a list of mantis shrimp that have the lines in thier eyes that are smahers *hint hint*

Oh. And have you checked the meral spots? Oh well you will have to wait a while. He's not cruising the board right now. It had an interesting looking burrow though. Does it come out much?

the lighting was changed, but not alot, it went from 36 watts of 50/50 pc to 28 watts of 50/50. And the lighting was changed for 1 day when his burrow was closed up, so I dont believe his coloring is changed do to lighting changes. His coloring helps him blend in almost perfectly with the coraline algae. There are many other species that can be green or red that have white meral spots. And from all the pics i have seen Wennies dont have the vertical lines in their eyes.

N. bredini? Has a white meral spot, changes color based mostly on surroundings versus wennerae which changes mostly on light. White meral spot. Dunno about the vertical eye stripes though....

yeah, thats the only thing that stumps me, i was thinking g. viridis. but i dont know if g viridis has the funky looking eyes. The black eyes with the yellowish white stripes must be characteristic of some common smasher species.

Also, any reason why the mantis would be less active when it is red rather than bright green? I was thinking because when they are in bright light, ie shallow water. there are less predators than in deeper water where they would be red. plz let me know if this is wrong, was just wondering about it

I just took a look at my wennerae's eyes, she's about 2 1/2 inches, green right now, just came out of molt. In her eyes, she has one black vertical line in each eye. Any help?

Ok, I got a possitive view of the meral spots, redish fine boarder around white, so Im going to guess its a G. viridis, but in alot of the pics i see the viridis havewhite spots when green, mine didnt.

What kind of habitat does g. viridis live in? what does it eat in the wild?
