Help with true perc...

So I finally got my hands on one from exotic. For the past 3 days the clownfish has been swimming against the current right in front of the glass. It has a strange swim pattern as it bobs its head down and up as it swims and breathes hard. Now it has some mucus buildup on its sides. Also has white stringy poop and won't eat. Does anyone know whats wrong? My tank params are normal, got cheato in back, and all my corals are thriving...

anyone have experience with this? I don't have a QT tank either. Just a small 12 gallon aquapod

he stays at top of water now...what should I do? Should I transfer him to my friends tank?

I'd do a little research on the diseases. Unfortunately I don't have my clownfish book here. It probably is Brooklynella or ich. My clownfish didn't make it through it's treatment though; hopefully yours will do better I'd do a little research on the internet or see if you can find that book.

There is also an Anemone and clownfish forum you could post on.

Good luck

The 12g would make a good QT tank. Do read up on the common clown diseases. There are books as well as online articles here on RC and wetwebmedia.com as well. The wild-caught clowns are exposed to all kinds of risks of infection and already stressed by the catch/transport/holding process.
Hope yours does recover but you need to get him out of your display ASAP and into a treatment/QT system. If you have other fish in your display tank they have now been exposed to whatever came with the clown.

Both of my Perculas swim like that. They have a funny swim pattern. I guess that's why they are called clown fish :D. But if it's breathing hard then it might not be ok. Does it eat well??

Edit:
Shoulda read the whole thing. I don't know the treatment for white mucus man. Sorry..

Can you get some live brineshirmp to see if it will eat??
