I bought a starry blenny about a 1 week ago and i cant get him to eat anything!!!!!!! Im so worried hes going to die of starvation. Ive tried seaweed, brine shrimp flakes, garlic flakes, forzen mysis. hes ate NONE of it.
PLZ help me ASAP

it might be worth trying some live food with him. freshly hatched baby brine shrimp nauplii, black worms, white worms. sometimes live food can pique their interest.

it might also be worth picking up a bottle of Selcon. i've seen an increased feeding response in all my fish when the food is soaked in Selcon. it stinks to high heaven, which is probably why.

in a related note, since your tank is so young, is your water quality in line? making sure you NH3/4, NO2, salinity, temperature, and alkalinity are in spec would be a good idea. problems in the environment can manifest themselves in many ways, a stressed fish is very likely a fish that is not prone to eat.

Anything in the tank intimidating it?

My starry sucks up PE Mysis and Formula 2 flakes and picks microalgae off the the rocks and glass. Perhaps add some well-aged rocks with algae?

Also, one of the many benefits of quarantining a fish prior to adding to the DT is to allow the fish to settle in with out competition for food. This way, he can rest up, get used to your routine and you can try lots of food til you see what works.

A one month old tank isn't old enough for fish.

The algae that he would munch on does not yet exist with a tank that young.

Algae tabs

The tank is one month old with fish.... The tank has been running for about 3 months. I Cycled for two months ive had fish for one month! If the algae he munchies on isnt there yet what do i do? Ill try getting different mysis see if that helps. His other tank mates are Purple firefish, bangaii cardinal and a clownfish. But the starry is the biggest so he shouldnt feel scared

It's an algae eater and you don't have any in that young of a tank. Bring it back to the lfs and get a different fish until your tank matures and has algae growth. Should be after about 6 months or longer just depends.

Mysis is a small shrimp not algae. You can try some different veggie frozen foods or veggie pellets for him but in most cases they need a more mature tank

Formula two or befriend someone with algae problems...

I bought a rock from my lps store that had a load of algae on it and now the blenny has not been able to go away from the rock he loves it! I even put a piece of seaweed and used a rubber band to place it on the rock i hope he will like the seaweed more in the future so i dont have to worry about his diet.

it has been my experience that blennys in the genus Salarias are pretty open omnivores. with mine preferring anything he can get his lips around. while algae, and actually detritus, make up a large portion of their diet, i've generally observed a strong feeding response in mine, and others, for a wide range of meaty foods, including some live.

while i wouldn't advocate trying to make their entire diet meaty foods, and the OPs tank is certainly on the young side, anything to get the fish eating at this point would be a step in the right direction.

Fishy boy there is a difference between being straight forward and honest to being rude. Don't take things to heart that you read on the net, take them for the meaning of what was said. Nobody was being rude here. IMO

MondoBongo I agree if it's eating anything its a plus. The thing is all fish are different as are people. It would be great if they all ate pellet food and be happy and healthy on it. Cheaper too :D
