Does anyone happen to know what kind the large green one is?

I dunno , but with a monster claw like that I would I would keep an eye on him and your coral!

The only think I can think of is a Jade hermit crab but they don't have claws like that.

I think it is a jade that lost a claw sometime----they can grow the claws back and sometimes they are bigger then the original

at any rate it is not a good mix for your snails--as you can see he will kill them off for their shells as he grows and he is big enough right now to want a nice big turbo as his next investment in realestate

Yeah, Jades are the only green hermits I've ever seen, I'm pretty sure they are reef safe.

As long as you give the hermits empy shells they shouldn't hurt anything.

he hasnt killed any, i had one die so i kept the shell. he started out when i bought him in a red-footed conch shell, he then switched to one of my elecrtic blue's shell, then back to the conch, then back to the old shell, now this one. he is actually very peaceful one so far!

thanks for all the input, the orange on it is throwing me off. all the pics ive seen of the jades dont have it, and they seem to have a splotchy green, where as mine is a smooth green.

oh that's a really debatable statement--hermits will kill snails out instinct and walk away from the shell--some seem to have to take the shell away from a snail or they are not happy.

I've removed all the hermits I can from the main tank and put them in the refuge---they are happy there and so are the snails in the main tank---since I have done that my snail population has not dwindled as much

I've always kept hermits, and snails. I dont have any problems, but I stick to the smaller hermits mostly. I keep alot of empty shells, of different varieties, and sizes as well.
