Hey Jaybird

Snowbirds

Male Cardinal taking on the storm

Portrait of a Jbird

They're so beautiful up close. The detail and color of the feathers is exquisite

Male Downey.

my goal in the snowstorms is to capture perfect little snowflakes clinging to their delicate feathers. Ive gotten some good ones in the past but all the stars have to align to capture it. the snowflakes weren't quite right today, but close...

Nicely done Jaybird. I particularly like the last cardinal above the downey, and the last of the chickadee.

Sweet! You missed the shot of them smoking cigarettes after though... ;)

The bursting buds add a nice seasonal time stamp.

Not to disparage his masculinity, but was it all over fairly quickly?

Red bellied woodpeckers?

Yes, redbellied, really fun to watch. It took all of about 30 seconds. And our women think three minutes is bad!!!

The pics are about 1/5 the original. Camera shoots at just over 5000 and these were 1200 after crop. Also hand held at about 100 feet away shooting up into a tree. The camera wasn't on continuous and each shot was released on it's own, and from the shutter release not a remote shutter. The pics you see were all I took, so I'm guessing I was pretty still.

Boy is it ever "ON"! We had a severe storm come thru Monday night and Tuesday morning there had to be 50 new species of birds on my property. The migration apparently rode the storm in. I need to get a day with nice lighting, light winds and free time so I can do some shoot'n!

I spent an hour walking the trail on my property and came up with few so so shots.

I saw so many I wanted to shoot but was just too slow with the lens.

Ruby crowned Kinglet. This is the smallest bird we have next to the humming bird. When he's excited or ticked off, a bright red crown stands up on his head.

Rose Breasted Grosebeak. Very abundant here now.

I think this is a Black Throated Green Warbler

A Purple Martin giving me a building inspection

Baltimore Oriole. Amazed at how many are here on my property... At least 2 dozen!

A pair of Magnolia Warblers. Really pretty bird! I want to get a good quality photo of this guy, Very shy.

Chestnut sided Warbler

Red bellied Woodpecker

This is just the beginning! The first migration is just coming thru and it is a good one!

I have taken a few distant photos of Indigo Buntings in the past. This spring they are thick on my property and I had no problem attracting them to my window feeder. Im shooting these with a Macro lens. I am behind a blind approximately 12-18" from the bird! When this guy came in and posed for about 100 shots, I figured, OK, been there done that! Next bird please! :) SO, the next challenge was getting a close up portrait of an Oriole. I cut an orange in half and put it in the feeder. 30 minutes later, I checked the feeder to see 4 Orioles lined up to get at the orange! CHECK! Nailed him!
A GREAT afternoon behind the lens!

Then this bully dropped in and cleared the crowd

I agree with your assessment.

It would be great if a magnolia warbler would visit your macro blind.

I enjoyed Jesse's bird peaking around the frame earlier. Good demonstration of the power of composition.

.

Boy that would be excellent! However, unlikely. Unless I can create a feeder that swarms with insects, maybe paint a decoy warbler at the feeder and also use my bird call app to get its attention....... HMMMMMMMM!! :)

Until then, I will continue to chase these little boogers on foot...
