Hiclarion angel $4500 at my lfs

Craig hasn't gotten any lately and I think they are still the only ones with legal permits to collect them...Wen just released a lot of them, various sizes- from last year's 1st batch to their latest, assumed that lable was wrong.

Just read on the forum that this guy from country critters in patchogue ny where I took this picture, got arrested for illegally collecting from a protected marine sanctuary off the keys last month and Is out on 20k$ bail, was in the paper . Wonder if this had anything to do with it, just went in there the other day and the had significantly less corals than usual.

Are these from Bali-Aquarich?

This fish indeed looks to be wild caught... they've been regularly available recently... even within the past month... even small ones. The CB ones are also coming in.

lol, I wish I remembered a $100 Clarion...

The 1st one I ever came acros was in 1990. It was $400. I used to call all the lfs that advertised in the back in the back of the saltwater mags and ask what they had in stock. At the time we were looking for a clarion, conspic, or chrysurus. Icalled a lil mom and pop lfs in Arizona and they had a baby clarion live in a 45 next to their cash register. They called it "their pet" lol, but sold her. In thought I hit the jackpot that day! They shipped to nyc.

When/where were they $100?

They can be aggressive if threatened but imo/ime, they are not close to passer, emp, or queens in temperament and as they grow they get even mellower..

$100 was the wholesale price back in the day... when I was slinging fish in North Jersey in high school in the early 90s they were regularly available at Aqua-tropics (now Absolutely Fish) in Clifton for $300 to $400... the same price as purple tangs! Funny thing was that asfur angels were about double that price!

I would be keen on giving it a go. Does anyone have any good reading on how to breed angelfish, more specifically the apolemichthys family?

From the information that I have obtained breeding them is easy, raising the larvae is difficult.

Fortunately bandits have been done, and they are very close to the species you're looking to breed... get on it!

Also touch base with Karen Brittain, not on RC here as paka.

Anyway, I've had my clarion pair for years now, and fortunately they survived the move... I have them under Radions and these fish glow red under the red channels of LED... it's pretty incredible... I need to get updated shots...

Here's the male... grown from a juvie I got from the first legal collection of them in years I got in February of '08... the fish is now a stud male...

The female... smaller but chunkier...

And the pair together... the male is a deeper orange which up until that point I'd only seen in wild shots... :)

hey I live in sayville right by there. I stopped going there a little while ago because they never had corals worth buying. that's insane he was doing that and got caught.

That's the real reason Country Critters has this fish labelled as legally collected... they were one of the many businesses that got nabbed in "Operation Rock Bottom", which was centered around a wholesaler in the Keys... the same guys I dived with years ago in this thread...

http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1993508

Not long after that they became legendary for a different reason, along with a network of clients that included retail shops and public aquariums that knowingly trafficked in illegally collected wildlife that included eagle rays, sharks, live rock and corals collected in the Keys! Dick Perrin, the owner of Tropicorium and a legend in his own right, was also nabbed as part of this... along with illegally collecting his own baby alligators, all at the tender age of about 80! :)

I've been out of the loop for a little while... who around here has any of the CB clarions?

wholesale around 2k to 2500
waiting for them to be 500 at wholesaler so i can get one

Actually by "loonie price" I meant the Canadian price... the wholesale prices I've seen for both the wild and CB small clarions in the past month is well under 2K... but a long way from $500. :)

How long before that happens you think? I hope the breeding success continues to a point where they become commonplace, them and Conspic's, that would be great.

Hiclarion angel $4500 at my lfs

I hope in a year or so
Aquarich are not selling it since there are tons in wholesaler. If its 500 from Aquarich is still 800-1k at wholesaler

Maybe in few years it will be 200-300 from Aquarich so 500 at wholesaler
