High Performance Skimmer for SPS

Hi Guys,

I Have a 160G tank SPS only and now I have a DIY HSA with quiet one 6000....but IÃ"šÃ‚´m looking for something powerfull

Do you guys think that a Deltec AP1003 é very superior to a HSA ???

Is Deltec realy the "state of art" at this moment ???

Regards

1. IMO, yes.

2. State of the Art? It is not new technology by any means, but they are very solid, proven performers--they do what they are supposed to do (and very well).

for "state of the art" would have to say Bubble King, due to the fact that it has the Red Dragon pump running it....

Although i think either a Bubble King, Deltec, or H&S would do any reef good....

Personally? I would take a bekett skimmer, on a proper pressure pump over any skimmer out there.

Bubbleking is the best...my dream skimmer

Can you give more information about this one ? a web site, price, etc :D

I already have a becket, this one :

I would think that a recirculating skimmer would be the next step in skimmer design. The other thing is that they hold alot more water than they did in the past. These two points evolve from the idea that a longer contact time is better.

My dream skimmer would have a two minute contact time and hold enough water to turnover the tank once and hour.

The other thing I see is pairing a good skimmer with a Algea filter growing cheato or some type of macro algea. These two items along with water changes should take care of all you pollution problems.

Ya, but it is on a quiet one 6000, that is not (imho) a proper pressure pump (it's max head is only 12 feet!). Something like an Iwalkia 55 or 70 would put that skimmer into overdrive. Using 1 inch pipe straight into the bekett (no 90's) will help too.

Denadai- yes the BKs are made in Germany by a man named Klaus. They are then imported and sold in the US by Gary owner of Captive Oceans.

BTW just incase you are wondering they are rumors that Klaus is working on a self cleaning head for the bubble kings just like what the deltec skimmers have.....

the self cleaning head wont be out for awhile, but atleast he is working on them :)

What's the purpose for the self cleaning head? can I place the bubble king extrenal skimmer inside the sump instead outside the sump?

Reefrookie- same as the Deltec self cleaning head, to keep the inside of the neck clean. this eliminates the need for cleaning the collection cup every week or so...

basically zero maintence besides cleaning the pump/pumps....

i am sure the price will be equal or most likely more than the Deltec self cleaning head. Based on the price of the BK compared to the Deltecs i would say it will be priced slightly higher...

Not sure about your question, but why not just get an internal? if you want a definte answer either email Scott or Gary @ captive oceans or make a thread on the Zeo forum....

Take a look at this:

This is my aquac ev400 with a panworld 150.
This skimmer really takes out a lot of junk everyday.

IMHO it makes no difference in investing 1500 bucks in a "top of the art" skimmer than $480 in a very reliable and good skimmer, if they all work with the same principle and both takes about 1 cup of skimmate everyday, it wonÃ"šÃ‚´t matter if your skimmer is $500-1500 bucks.

Hi Leopardshark,

I agree with you. I think that the price of Deltec and BubbleKing is abusive......

IÃ"šÃ‚´m just looking for somenthing powerfull....maybe I try a new pump to my HSA like Wiskey said
