HLLA help !

I'm not aware of a simple answer. Anecdotal opinions vary across a range of potential causes including: dusty granulated carbon , general water chemistry and nutrition.

This article may give you a few insights to consider:

If you don't get an adequate response on this forum you might try the Fish disease forum.

no in reef treatment that I know of. Remove the fish to a quarantine tank, treat with prazipro for a week or two and then re-introduce.

A healthy diet with fresh vegetables is the best proactive approach. Check out IndoPacific SeaFarm in Hawaii. They use Tang Heaven Red (Gracilaria Parvispora) to reverse HLLE.

I have successfully brought back tangs and angels from HLLE. I used vitamin C orally (food supplement), and dosing. It also seems to help when exposing the fish to stronger UV radiation such as halide lights. Varying diet helps as well.

IME lack of nutrition seems to be the main cause, followed by heavy metals and carbon (Is carbon absorbing something the fish need? no one is sure.), then infections (possibly secondary problem).

In any case, none of the fish recovered unless they were moved to a different habitat. Whatever caused the issue was in the system, so keeping them in it was a bad idea. But this is just my experience. It could coincide with some other factor I was missing.

it depends on the cause I've linked it to 2 things and corrected both. Most common was the use of granular activated carbon. I switched to pelletized carbon and the issue was corrected. the second is a parasite. I treated that in my reef by making a medicated food with metroplex from seachem.
In both scenarios advance of the HLLE stopped immediately. But recovery is very slow. A very good diet high in vitamin C will speed it along.

Thanks.
I agree the metronidazole looks promising along with limiting GAC dust.
