Ho Hum, another 180G in wall (pics and need advice)

Thanks Edwinn and Bart :)

Bart, the saltwater mixing can is actually sitting right behind the tank. Here is an older shot of my tank from behind.

You can see the top of my 45 gal QT tank on the left side of the pic. The mixing can is essentially on the other side of the QT...so I would either need to go along the wall or up and over.

Thanks CantoneseFish...

I put the water in this late january 2007, Live Rock went in around late Feb, then I started to add the fish and corals in late March, IIRC.

Thanks Scuba...

I picked up a really nice Torch coral yesterday and then I couldn't resist on a small clown tang that my LFS had in stick for a really good price.

Dropped him in and the PB who is about 4X his size gave him the business whenever he came out, but the little guy found a nice hiding place behind one of the output tubs and hung there for most the day. This morning he seemed to be gettin less harrassment and was not to worse for wear.

I'll post pics later this week.

Tank looks awesome you don't happen to have a diagram of the plumbing? I’m getting ready to start a tank buildup and I like the looks of your setup.

Thanks NO1B4ME202

thanks bherren, I could draw something up, maybe ;)

but not 3 times! :D

bad news on the clown tang, I jumped the gun, he didn't make it...I'm not sure what went wrong, the acclimation was smooth, but the PBT was likley too much for the little guy...now I feel like a schmuck. :(

it was odd, he was actually going around the tank eating off the glass and rocks, but the PBT would chase him to a corner whenever he felt the need. He had some stress marks and a couple of split fins, but otherwise was acting normal. I think the stress was too great. Next time I plan on doing this differently, but with the PBT, adding more tangs is difficult once they are settled.

sorry, I effed up, posted as a new thread!

============

A few updates (I was hoping for a nice clown tang pic, but oh well )

I'll try and get pics of the sump and post them, so you can see the Mag24 feeding the skimmer via vinyl tubing, then returning via PVC into one of the filter socks to reduce mircrobubbles

UPDATED! 8-10-2007

UPDATED! 8-10-2007

finally got a chance to post some updates, here are some pics at the 6 month mark of the tank and some new inhabitants.

bad news is my Purple Clove Polyp has sucumbed to the relentless picking by the Angels and even the yellow tang! It's pretty much a stump now :(

Also, inadvertantly burned my devil's hand and killed it. It was sitting directly in front of an output and I was dosing stuff in the fuge, so it went right at it and melted the poor guy, live and learn.

So here's two pics of the tank, one with a flash and one without:

My Torch and my Brain coral which is about a month old:

I got a really cool Cup Coral (Pagoda I think), I really like this LPS:

I also got a cool finger leather/tree leather

and finally a fire shrimp, he's really cool! I'll get better pics once he starts roaming more, which is usually around feeding time:

ok

ok

here's my waterchange setup. I essentially have a brute can for fresh RO water with a Mag 8 in it for pumping to another brute can for mixing and/or storage:

Fresh RO holding can (it's about 20 feet from the main display)

goes along the wall...:)

You can see attached to the wall I have an output coming from the mixing can that is open ended. This is a union that I created two attachments for my main tank and the QT tank. I set it up as a temporary attachment versus a fixed plumbing up and over or around the wall.

Here's the attachment for the main display, ready for pumping new salt water in!
