Ho Hum, another 180G in wall (pics and need advice)

LOL! DS, that's the same comments I got when I posted the desk pic in another thread. I admit I've been sitting there and looked up and decided to "take a breaK' and go test the water or clean the skimmer, etc. ;)

love the "office" sitting next to the tank idea. I don;t know how much would i would do but it would be a relaxing way not to do it.

Looks nice! Just a thought on the aquascaping...it might look cool to stack the rocks into two taller piles, with an opening in the middle, rather than having them flat accross the tank.

thanks mcliffy...thought about that, but this tank is sorta half barebottom, half sand. Essentially all the LR is on the glass with the sand pushed to the front. It gives the effect of having a sandbed, but it's easier to maintain, IMO.

If I put the rocks in two piles, it would expose the glass and wouldn't look as good. However, I do plan on adding LR and will start to build it higher in some places.

nice love the updates, also how are rocks secure down or they stack together on top of each other. keep up the good job

thanks for stopping by bart!

they are pretty sure, I tend to stack them so they are precarious, but they may look it. They are also being somewhat supported by the overflows that are in the tank, so some of them are sitting up against those (not blocking the intakes near the middle).

gig do you think there is to much flow through your fuge? Also with that dart pump how is the flow in your aquarium with the returns? Is it just right or is there two much water flow?

no problems, is the flame angel shy or does he like to play hide go seek:mixed:?

The flame I got is very outgoing. He loves to swim in and out of the rocks constantly and has no problem swimming in the open, even when I some up to the tank.

Only issue is, if he see the majestic do something, he like to play along. So when the majestic decides to much on some zoas I have, he joins in! :mad2:

to answer your question...yes :) to the fuge flow.

as for the flow into the tank, it's pretty nice, I have out puts bhind the LR as well, so it keeps the back nice and clean, the wavemaker dealies on top do a nice job of moving water around as well, for $12/apiece, it's not bad.

But I only planned on using the fuge to keep some LR and chaeto and act as a filter, more than a true refugium.

My setup is not perfect and I might change it a couple years down the road, but for now it suit my puposes, as I'll likely stick with the VHO lighting and the softies/LPS and fish.

Preferably, I'd have the skimmer pulling water directly from the fuge instead of the sump, before the fuge water hits the socks, but this was my setup and now I live with it ;)

thanks for the comments.

gig i like your set up. I like the idea of the two tanks underneath your 180 i'm doing something very similar and i may use your same exact desin. on your sump how come you went open with no baffles? where did you get the wavemaker dealies for $12. One thing I noted that you could put valves on your returns to slow down the flow a little in the fuge but other than that tank looks great good job gig.

thanks again paul!

If I could do it over, Id try and configure it so the return pump was pulling from the middle of the two tanks underneath. That was I could half the outputs crashing into the sump and the calmer "fuge side", with the return pulling from both.

bevause of the setup, where the "rough water" is crashing into the fuge and then to the filterbags, it eliminates any microbubble.

the downside is that I likley lessen the pods getting into the main system.

True on the pods. How is the overall noise with the water and the pump? One friend i know has two tanks under his 125. His sump just has a powerhead pumping over into the fuge which has a hole drilled near the top which dumps back into the sump to be returned back into the aquarium. I'm tell ya there must be a ton of ways to plumb a sump/fuge that is seperate. I'll be closley watching your thread please post more pics on the fuge later so I can observe the growth. thanks gig

Well I have a sequence dart, which is really quiet for a pump that size. It's got some noise, but my fishroom closes off to the rest of the room, so with the door closed, you really don't hear much.

As you can see (or maybe cant), my fuge simply dumps into the sump via two bulkheads drilled high on the fuge, those two outputs dump into the 100 micron filter socks, which I clean once per week. I'll try and post some newer pics of the fuge soon.

I'm still struggling to get my calcium levels to 400+, right now they are around 300-350, so I'm not getting much coralline growth (new growth as my current LR already had tons). But my other specs are in line (PH, Alk, nitrates, Nitrites and Ammonia are all where they need to be).

sequence has a snapper pump below the dart I may try that one on my 155 but i'm impressed with what you have put together gig good luck.

the cool thing about the sequence pumps is that they are "smart pumps", so if you have a ball valve on the output and you turn it down, it actually uses less power if you need less flow.
