HOB Filter Refuge

Quick question, Im planning on doing the AC HOB Filter mod in to a refugium. Will I have to get a secondary filter or will the LR be enough for a filtration system. Its a 10 gal. Also which lights do more of you perfer for this the clip on lamps or the moded stand in the thread.

Ive been keeping some calerpa in behind a rock to help with some nitrates. They were less than 10 ppm when I added it and it is almost undetectable now. Just dont like the look of it in the display.

Use a AC300 or AC500 for your refuge. I like PCs. I now have two 10s that I'm breaking-down and going with a 24 aquapod setup.
The LR you now have should work just fine.

Not sure if you mean carbon by "another filter" but I would suggest using carbon regardless how much LR you have.

Actually yes it is what I meant. How do you run carbon if you dont put it in a filter??? Do I put in to the fuge or somewhere else?

You can get a media bag and simply put it in the water flow, or use one of those disposable blue floss/carbon combos like an eclipse filter cartridge. Chemi-pure is some of the best carbon I've come across.

Use Poly-Filter in the AC. You can cut it up to fit nicely. Cheaper to use plus will late a long time.

You probably don't need a secondary filter system. However based on the model of the AC hob you may need additional flow.

My Ac hob moves 300 gph and I added a powerhead that moves about another 100 gph for two reasons. First, I felt the tank needed more flow. Second, if the impeller on the AC ever locks up (like it's done to me twice in two years) the tank will still have circulation.

Im already running a AC 20 for the filter right now and figured I could just steal the impellor and add it in to another filter. Im also running a Rio 400 in the tank as well. Still doesn't seem like enough flow to me.

Should I use a bigger impellor on the fuge???

I was at a LFS yesterday and they had a used HOB Refugium for sale. For the price I couldn't walk away. The only issue is that the pumps did not come with it. They told me to use a hose and siphon it in to the fuge. Then use my powerhead to push the water back out. Is that they best way to go? Or should I get a pump or something to pull the water out of the display?

What Macro Algae should I put in the fuge and should I add live rock? Would it be beneficial for me to purchase some copepods and shrimps to help the beginning stages of their establishing?
