Holy mother of ....

That is insane!!! Did that fish make it? Some backround on this fish would be great!!! Is that one of Rufus's many insane grabs? T

It was caught by Rob a few days back. It definitely was an awesome pick, but unsure of how it is doing now.

That small of a fish always tweaks me out.

Not exactly bigfoot......but almost as mythical

Awesome picture. What happened to this fish?

How deep are these typically found? Do they adapt as well as the Borb. Anthias do to captivity???

I just love answering my own questions!!! :rolleye1:

In case anyone is interested, I found this information that may be of interest to some who want to know more about this fish beyond a video and a picture of one in a bottle cap :)

Environment Benthopelagic; marine; depth range 43 - 260 m

Seem to be typically found surrounding the Northern Islands of Hawaii

And here is a post about them on the Glassbox Design Site:

Please feel free to correct any of the information above if someone has more detailed or better information than what I have found in my own research.

Hmmmm, while we're not seeing many of these, I wonder if they'll be the new borbs....

I would love to see them be more common in the hobby in a few years with a more reasonable price tag.

However, my guess is no. As I recall, the Borbs we're seeing for cheap now are being collected from a different area in much shallower waters, and if the Fuscipinnis don't inhabit more shallow waters elsewhere, I doubt it'll happen.

They're probably found at lesser depth in the Northwest islands but it's not like anyone will be collecting there.

As for that tiny holanthias, wow! just wow :eek2:

Wow!

Rob usually gives the collection depth on the deep water fish, did he state how deep it was collected?

I think Bigfoot is blurry, that's the problem. It's not the photographer's fault. Bigfoot is blurry, and that's extra scary to me. There's a large, out-of-focus monster roaming the countryside. Run, he's fuzzy, get out of here.

...sorry, couldn't resist when I saw the bigfoot pic. :D

Yeah, that happens with me, Brian. You might see this too:
