Holy reefer!!!! Dd 250 custom

Great read stumbled across a link to it. I would have read it much earlier, but finding things you don't know about is really hard :)

When you have a moment can you post a picture of your sediment trap (I think that is what you called it).

Thanks

This is what the deiment traps started out like. There were thre "weirs" - or "ribs"
Removing one of the "ribs" in the sump. I don't know the history of this sump or the original design intent, (- I got it used for a song - $250!) so -I broke out the Bosch flush cut saw......

Actually that pictures help quite a bit. I was trying to find something in other pictures in the tank before the over flow. I was also having trouble understanding how one fish made it down the drain but you caught him in the sediment trap. That is what happens when you try and read the whole thread at one time - some of the detail get lost. And it wasn't that long, maybe I am just getting old :wavehand:

Here is the "in-fill" plate after I installed it in the first rib. I drilled and tapped the holed int eh rib, then drilled slightly larger holes in the polypro. Then siliconed, and screwed the infill plate in place. The way this is set up is that te water enters the first bay of the weir from the overflow pipes, then must flo under it ( there is a 2" gap at teh bottom you cannot see in the pic) then it mus flow up and over the next one to the main sump. This traps a lot of debris, as you may see in one of the shots

Thanks weirze!
I have tried to design this system with flow enough to prevent detrius from settling in the tank - as little as possible. I think that has helped to prevent much of any unwanted algaes.

The skimmers are MRC ( My Reef Creations) brand. The smaller one uses 2 Becketts. The large black trimmed one uses 4 Becketts. It required a Reeflo Hammerhead to drive it well.
