Holy reefer!!!! Dd 250 custom

wireefman:
Yep - I like FLOW! Total hole count is 18. There are 3 OM -4 's. 2 running the closed loop powered by Hammerheads and 1 for the overflow-sump-tank circuit which uses a Barracuda. And I amgoing to put some Vortechs in the tank next week! SURF's UP!!!

Here is a picture of the surface of the water with the return pump running:

Fantastic!!

Looks like a LOT of good planning went into this build. That is my dream tank with the side external overflow. Nice job!

wireefman: I am going to focus mostly on SPS for now, with mostly tangs and rabbitfish as "productive" citizens in the tank. But - not being a purist....well - who knows what might find a home in the tank!

Kevn: Thanks! But plan as we might- there are always things that we would do different. There have been a few thus far, but, I am happy with the results overall.

These are the two troublemakers...er...great guys at Marineland/Perfecto that made sure this tabk came out great.
I have to hand it to them - they listened, asked quuestions and were ready to do anything I asked!

Yo T , I was wondering what skimmer configuration you ended up with...Or you can wait for a more appropriate time to discuss skimmer issues later in the thread...I dont mean to jump the gun here....although nothing better than reef tanks and guns !! :uzi:

I am interested in your plans for lighting the tank.. I also have a Marineland DD and trying to figure out what to use to cover the width and keep SPS.. Looking forward to following along tagging in>>> Thanks

Jeff: I tried a triple pumped needle -wheel driven re-circulating skimmer that was rated for my size system, but....I don't know, I just could not get the quanity/quality of stuff out of it that the Beckett based skimmers do. I think there is a reasonable size range of tanks or space requirements that the needle wheel jobs are better suited for. Example:
Under a tank, in a stand - where space is limited, and the need for very quite operation is of high importance. Or if total energy consumption is a high priority - then the needle wheel skimmers are a good bet.

*BUT* - if you are "drag-race oriented" then more horse power wins! And Becketts - tho they are power hungry, just WORK.......tho they require more horse power, and by that measure may not be considered as efficient - yet the quanity/quality of skimate is better for my experience.

Lighting:
I am planning a "tri-fecta" of lighting. I have an Aquatinics 60" - 2- 250 watt 10K mogul w/2 54 watt T-5 Actinics. As well, I have 2 - 48" - 6 bulb T-5 Nova Extreme Pro fixtures with a mix of bulbs.
Then there are the Simu- Sticks that are connected to teh GHL Profi-Lux computer controller. These are 2 ft. tubes that have LEDs in them, and create storms, and cloud simulations.
Yeah...I am nutz...I know;)
All the lights fit into an aluminum frame that I drew up and had a local welder put together for me. I am ordering a lift mechanism that will allow me to raise and lower it via remote control, as it is just a little too heavy to manually raise and lower.
More pics later....stay tuned!

Such pressure!!!! I suppose I can post that picture of you in a "compromizing situation" with a German Shepard.....???:spin2:

And a hearty Feliz Navidad to you and yours Chris!:wavehand:

Gotta have a place for RO/DI water....So I built a stand for a 325 gal. tank just outside of the pump room.

And - I needed a tank to store mixed water for water changes:

I will connect them to the R.O. unit and install float valve and shut off valves for each.
