HOTB Fuges?

Anybody know of a nice hotb fuge? I need something fairly small: 4.5-5" deep and no more than about 18.5" wide. Any help would be appreciated. I just want to do mud and calupra(sp?).

I'm happy with my CPR HO fuge, they come in different sizes.
Got mine from Drsfoster&smith.
I don't rec miracle mud if that's what you're thinking.
It added alot of phosphates to my tank.
LR rubble and chaeto are best in my opinoin.

Well I have a megaflow model 2 sump:

, but my ER CS80 takes up the whole middle area. Right under the bio balls I have a bunch of LR rubble already tho. How big does chaeto get, does it need alot of room to grow? I kind of wanted to do the hotb fuge so I could do mud(or sand) and chaeto and have room for the chaeto to grow.

chaeto grows depends on the nutrients you have and lighting. alot of people have good luck with spotlight from homedepot (approx. 5000k).
you can also take out (throw) some chaeto when needed or when they grow too much.

When you do remove the bio balls (and I agree that you should) do it slowly. What you've got with the wet/dry is a nitrate factory. I started out the same way with CPR (except with biobale). Two months later (with weekly 20% water changes) my nitrates are down to 15. Your corals won't appreciate it and hair algae will. I'm using live rock and cheato in the sump lighting 12hrs a day on reverse cycle of the display. Things are improving slowly. Which is the way to go IMO. Good Luck!

So do you think I could just stick a little wad in the corner of my current sump and just keep it trimmed?

IMO you could stick some in your current set-up if there is no way that could get trapped and cause a flow problem and your able to position a light safely. I have a HOTB on my tank

ok if you light your sump you can probobly grow cheato cheato is much safer than calurpa for a big tank a lil ball will not do much

Would this size fuge be ok to use?
Water Capacity: 3.60 Gallons
Dimensions: 19" L x 4.5" W x 12" T
I could even solely use it to grow the chaeto(maybe just throw a few peices of rubble in), since I already have some LR rubble in my sump(and can always take out the bioballs and fill that chamber with more rubble).

Is all this work just to grow chaeto even necessary??

I used one for my 75g before upgrading to a 120g w/ custom sump/fuge. It works great. There was a great deal of growth and flow through it. Sitting in the basement with the rest of the unused upgraded equipment.

Thats good to know. Thank you for the input. At least I know it will be worth the time for my system.

What about the idea of growing chaeto alone(see my last post before the bumps)? Thanks alot guys!
