Aside from being useful as a visual point of reference for another useful parameter, I do have some failsafes in my programming. I have lines in my programming for things like shutting down my ATO in the event that the salinity is too low or shutting down my automated water changer (LiterMeter III) if the salinity is too low or too high. I also have alarms and email alerts associated with salinity being out of whack.
I do verify its accuracy on a semi regular basis with a hydrometer as well as another digital salinity monitor that I have. I've had this setup since the PM2 was released and its worked pretty flawlessly but need need a good cleaning and a calibration a few weeks back as it was a little off.
