How big is your "carpet"?

elegance coral

They call me EC
And what species is it?

I'm trying to figure out how big these things really get, on average, and max. I've heard stories of 24" haddoni's. I've seen very few 18 or 19 inch haddonis, but never a two footer. My haddoni maxes out at just over 16". No matter what I do, she won't top 17". According to this link, http://www.nhm.ku.edu/inverts/ebooks/intro.html They are capable of reaching over 31"

My gigantea is easily 22+", and growing. The link above says they max out at less than 20". I could see my gigantea easily topping two foot in the next couple of months.

As always, pic's would be greatly appreciated.

My Gig was stretched out to about 7 inches this morning. How big was yours when you got it EC?

The largest haddoni I have seen was a traded in brown one at a lfs called Aqua Serine in Eugene Oregon. It was in a 2' by 2' vat and easily touched all four sides. It was absolutely enormous. Just the foot on it looked to be 10 to 12 inches in diameter. This is by far the largest I've seen and way bigger than I thought they could get. I wish I had snapped a photo but this was about 4 or 5 years, before I had a camera phone.

I realize that this is very anecdotal, but after seeing it first hand, there is no doubt in my mind that some of them can reach sizes of 2' or more.

Heres my 18 inch red haddoni. Shey stretches that when fed. I wonder how big i can get her to grow?

Heres my old gig. It lasted a month but was easily 2 ft and had multiple mouths and a separate pedal.

Mate has a 3ft gig i will see if be has a pic, he doesn't take many pics tho or actively participate in forums

My Gig stretchs to an easily 20-22" when he wants too be a giant. Normally 18" I see always though. My mag is 15"

It was about ~16" when I got it. It wasn't round though. It was more oval shaped. It was bleached with a poor feeding response, so it lost mass for the first few months. It probably got down to about ~12". Once it got its zooxanthellae, and feeding response back, it started growing like a weed. Here it is shortly after I got it. Big difference between then and now.

The largeset carpet that I have seen was HUGE. It was not in anyone's personal tank though it was at the Shedd Aquarium. I know I have a picture of it somewhere and I will see if I can find it today. I cant remember if it was a S. Haddoni or if it was a Crytodendrum adaesivum I believe it was a S. Haddoni though.

I remember seeing a haddoni at aquatic technology in Ohio that was in a 4x4 live rock bin. It was at least 30" across. I beleive it had come from a customer tank.

Ok here are two pics of the anemone at the Shedd Aquarium. The first one the tang is about 8 inches and the little haddoni in the front was about 10 inches.

Very impressive. Even more impressive is that these photos are from the future!

Yeah I usually put the disclaimer that the time stamp is off by two years I just forgot this time. Whats worse is everytime someone brings it up after I post a picture I say to myself that I am going to change it but I forget everytime. I still wonder if they ever have any issues with the Haddoni's staying put with all those BTA's in there.

I don't feed my anemones. I like it to stay manageable size in the current tank I have.

My red haddoni is ~11=12". Every once in a while, it'll get a hold of a trochus snail or hermit crab. I think it has grown maybe an inch or two within the past 4 months I have it.
My clowns go into all the anemones in the tank but only sleep in one of the giganteas.

My pride and joy. Watching the tentacles randomly sway back and forth is mesmerizing. It's about 11-12" as well. It has grown from 6" within the 7 months I have it. For this reason, I don't think feeding anemone is necessary at all.
